A Chromebook is different from a laptop because it is built around Google’s web browser and takes advantage of Google’s productivity tools, like Docs. Students’ work, completed through Google Documents, is automatically saved and cannot be lost even if the Chromebook is ruined. The Chromebook also has several advantages over a traditional laptop. First, it starts up much faster (in around eight seconds). This helps save class time because the Chromebook can be ready for use when the class starts. Next, Chromebooks have long battery life, from six to nine hours. This is more than enough time for students to complete their school work on a single battery charge. However, we will also provide charging stations during study hall for machines that need a charge during the school day. Finally, unlike a traditional laptop, a Chromebook is considerably less expensive, with prices ranging from $200 to $300.
There are a variety of Chromebook manufacturers and all designs will function the same. The differences between the brands are the features that each Chromebook offers, like touchscreen capabilities.
