Technological Systems
A technological system is a set of interconnected components (subsystems) that work together to reach a specific goal or function.
Subsystems
A subsystem is a smaller system within a larger system. It performs a specific function and is often designed to work with other subsystems to achieve the overall goal or function of the technological system
Let's put this into context...
A vehicle is considered a technological system. It is composed of several subsystems like the engine, transmission, and braking system. These subsystems all work together to provide transportation.
Activity One
1) On your website create a subpage called Topic One: Technological Systems and subsystems
2) On this Page create a Heading that says Activity One
3) Underneath this heading you will complete the following activity...
In your own words write a definition of what technological systems and subsystems are
Think of an example of a technological system in your day-to-day life and its subsystems and posts it to your website with a brief explanation
Technological Systems Categories
Systems can be broken down into two main sub-categories
1) Open Loop Systems
What is it?
Imagine giving instructions, and the system follows those instructions without checking or adjusting based on what's happening. It's a one-way transfer of information.
ie) Think about a fan. It will always operate at the fixed speed you assign regardless of the room temperature.
2) Closed- Loop Systems
What is it?
Now, think about a system that not only follows your original instructions but then constantly adjusts and checks itself based on its environment.
ie) Think about a Thermostat. It will constantly adjust itself by opening or closing a circuit to heat or not heat your home.
Activity Two
1) On "Topic One: Technological systems and subsystems" create another heading that says Activity Two
2) Underneath this heading you will complete the following activity...
In your own words write a definition of what an Open-loop system and a closed-loop system are
Think of an example of EACH in your day-to-day life and post it to your website with a brief explanation.
