Kentucky Department for Public Health requires most employees of local health departments to receive basic training in Incident Command in order to be ready to respond to a public health emergency.
Basic training consists of two (2) online courses offered by FEMA. In order to take these courses, you must first receive a FEMA Student Identification Number (SID). Upon receiving your FEMA SID, you may begin taking courses.
As you complete each course, you will will be directed to a final exam. After you complete each exam, you will receive a certificate of completion via email. Please forward the email to safety@nkyhealth.org, to hr@nkyhealth.org, and to your supervisor.
You can find all the courses on FEMA's website. Step-by-step instructions and specific course links are to the left of these instructions.
Each course + exam can take anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours to complete and can be completed in multiple sessions.
You have six (6) months to complete both. Please initial your checklist indicating that you understand this.
