Students learn second grade math concepts through their whole group lessons using the i-Ready math curriculum. Each math unit is broken into "lessons" on one topic that typically last about a week. Letters go home with each math lesson with suggested practice. Extra worksheets not used in class can be used for optional home practice.
Additionally, students work on whatever skills they need - whether above or below level - during are WIN time. This can be through computer practice, games, groups, or worksheets. Students often change math groups based on their current needs. You may receive recommended home practice as part of a math group if your child is below level.
In second grade, students deepen and expand on first grade math learning. Having strong addition and subtraction fact fluency is very important for second graders. Home practice such as flashcards is strongly recommended until students have mastered their addition and subtraction facts.

Fact fluency - Knowing your math facts quickly and easily without having to stop to calculate the answer. Students who have memorized their facts have excellent fluency.
Math facts - Basic math problems that you can learn to make bigger or more complicated problems easier, such as 2+2. Students should learn addition facts up to +10s and subtraction facts up to -10s.
