This is my fourth year teaching at Gordon Elementary and my third year teaching 2nd grade with our wonderful team!
I am a product of the North Kitsap School District. I grew up in Poulsbo and got my degree at WSU in Pullman alongside my best friend Ms. Ejde, who is working in 1st grade here at Gordon.
I am one of four sisters and I live with my eldest and her son, Holden! My nephew is 5, soon to be a big brother, and loves to take care of our five chickens on our little farmhouse in Poulsbo.
How do I know what is going on at school?
Weekly Parent Square Newsletters every Sunday.
Check Parent Square/email frequently and set up notifications.
Review work sent home daily.
Read district and school communication.
Check this website for more information!
How do I know how my child is doing academically?
Review graded and ungraded work sent home with your child.
Check their Math progress in i-Ready. You can see their online quiz scores and how many lessons they completed by having your child log into i-Ready through Clever and click the "my progress" tab. Then look at "completed work" for details.
We will go over initial test scores at fall conferences. Other scores and report cards will be sent home via Skyward/ParentSquare.
What if there is a behavior problem?
If something happens and I am informed, I will typically send a quick email or message on ParentSquare. Then we can schedule a phone call or meeting if we want to talk further. For ongoing behaviors, students and I will usually work out a behavioral system or chart that I will share with you. We will also talk at conferences.
How do I get in touch with you?
Contact information is at the bottom of the page.
I typically respond to emails and ParentSquare messages within 1-2 school days. If it has been several days and I have not replied, please reach out again, I may have missed your message.
If you would like to schedule a phone call or video chat before or after school, just reach out! I'm very flexible.
If you have an urgent message such as change in after school plans, please call the office to make sure I get it in time + you can message me on ParentSquare, just in case.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have concerns. If there is something that may affect your child's mood or learning at home, please let me know. I'm here to support your student in any way that I can!
Snack: Students can bring a small, healthy snack to eat at school. We will usually have a 10-minute snack break before lunch each day.
Lunch: If your child brings a lunch to school, they will put it in a cart to bring to the lunchroom. School lunch menus are available online, but do sometimes have last minute changes.
Water: Students should bring a water bottle to school each day, stored at their desk and should go home each day. If they forget their water bottle, they will need to wait until an appropriate time to use the drinking fountain.
Homework on Parent Newsletters are usually recommendations for extra practice students could be doing at home. It is up to parents, how much you decide students need/are required to do at home.
Recommendations always include but are not limited to:
i-Ready MyPath Math Practice *online*
Acadience Boost (ELA) Practice *online*
Reading Options (read aloud, read and answer comprehension questions, read and write 1 paragraph about what you read)
Practice Addition and Subtraction Fact Fluency (flash cards, XtraMath, etc.)
If you would like to bring pre-packaged (non-homemade) treats or goodies for your child's birthday celebration, for the whole class, you are welcome! Just please reach out to me and we can schedule a good time. If your child's birthday is in July or August, we will celebrate their half birthday. If your child has food allergies or restrictions, you are welcome to send a package of non-perishable treats with their name on it to give them anytime they aren't able to have a food item given to the class.
I have created a Google Photos album for our 2nd grade class. Anyone with the link can view the photos, otherwise it is private to our class. More pictures to come soon!
