Your child does not typically need to turn anything in for homework, but targeted home practice and regular reading can help your child be their best at school.
Every Week
Help your child empty their home folder at least once a week.
Please have your child read for at least 20 minutes five nights a week. Your child's teacher will give you recommendations based on their individual level at fall conferences.
Practice addition and subtraction math facts at least three times a week. Once your child has memorized their facts, they do not need to continue practicing at home.
Study spelling words until mastered. Five words to practice will come home each week.
Sometimes
If your child doesn't complete classwork, the teacher may ask you to help your child with it at home. She will communicate with you individually.
Your child may have a worksheet to complete for a math group reviewing key concepts.
There may be a special activity that requires work at home a few times during the year. You will be notified in advance through ParentSquare.
Optional Recommendations
Individual recommendations for additional practice will be shared at fall conferences and other points in the year.
Letters from our knowledge, skills, and math workbooks will be sent home with suggestions for home practice.
We don't use all of the pages in the workbooks. Blank or incomplete pages are another option for extra practice.
Several online learning programs are available through your child's Clever log-in if you have access to a device at home.
Backpack
Home folder
Lunch/snack if wanted
Water bottle (can bring empty and fill at school)
What to Wear Each Day:
Weather appropriate layers
Shoes for playing outside
Please make sure your child brings their home folder to school each day and empties it out at least once a week.
Computers will be kept at school. Your child will charge and store the computer checked out to them in the classroom cart.
If you would like to do online work at home, everything is accessible by logging in to Clever through your home device. Log in information will be in your child's home folder.
Attendance has a huge impact on your child's academic performance, but sometimes absences can't be avoided. If your child is gone please call the office. Planned absences (except for doctor's appointments) need to be excused in advance. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide work for absences in advance.
The following work is recommended to help your child stay caught up, particularly during a longer absence.
If your child's teacher uses Google Classroom, check for links to online work. (Sometimes they won't be posted until the next day.)
Check your child's home folder for any work sent home. You can also contact your child's teach to arrange to pick up work in the office for an extended absences or to send it home with another student. You do not need to send completed worksheets back to school unless you want the teacher to correct them.
Use online learning programs to help your child stay caught up. 10 minutes of Boost and 20 minutes of i-Ready is recommended each day.
Each day have your child read for an extra 10 minutes and write (about any topic) for 10 minutes. Have them practice math facts or complete math worksheets for 10 minutes.
As per school policy, we can't change where we send a student after school without parent notification. If your child has any changes in after school plans (different bus, different stop, different type of transportation, different person picking up) there are two ways to do this:
Call the office. Please don't call last minute - the phones get very busy.
Send a written note with your child. For bus notes please include the physical address of the stop, route number, and parent phone number. For pick up notes, please let me know if it is walk-up pick-up or car pick-up.
If you message your child's teacher through ParentSquare or email her, she may not get the message in time. Please also send a note or call the office in case the teacher is out that day or doesn't get a chance to check their messages.
4 = Wow! Student shows mastery of skill beyond expectation, often working above grade level. A 4 is not possible on all assignments.
3 = You did it! Student shows a solid understanding of grade level skill and is meeting standard. This is a good grade.
2 = Let’s keep practicing! Student is working toward, but has not mastered, skill. Please review the paper, correcting mistakes with your child.
1 = Uh oh! Student shows little understanding of standard. Please support your child in learning this skill.
