Effort Code Definitions

On middle school and high school report cards, teachers can assign an "Effort" score for each class. These scores are in the form of a numeric code, which are defined differently at the middle and high school levels. Definitions for these codes are as follows:

Middle School (6-8) Effort Codes

5: Excellent Effort

4: Good Effort

3: Satisfactory Effort

2: Inconsistent Effort

1: Little or No Effort

High School (9-12) Effort Codes

1: Insufficient time to make a fair judgment.

2: Appears to be putting forth no effort.

3: Appears to be putting forth insufficient effort.

4: Appears to be putting forth effort normally expected.

5: Appears to be putting forth more effort than most students do.

6: Appears to be putting forth exceptionally great effort.

7: Excessive absence from class.

8: Please call the teacher.
