Pill swallowing: Peer reviewing an online toolkit

During lockdown, this project was initiated to provide local youth with work experience opportunities. Within the DIAMONDS project, young researchers were trained in conducting research, starting from how to locate existing information to effectively reading journal articles. This research formed the foundation of the project's literature review.

Subsequently, the team delved into research methods to determine the most suitable approach. Opting to create a survey, they crafted relevant questions through several meetings to engage a broader audience. With over 100 responses collected, young researchers learned about thematic analysis, collaborating over Zoom to categorise themes.

The group presented their project at the 2021 RCPCH conference and two young researchers co-authored a journal article that was published in BMC Medical Ethics.

The idea for the project developed after forum members discussed their own experiences & wanted find out if other young people had similar experiences.

During meetings the group explored research methods, ethics of data collection and talked about options for this project. The group designed their own survey questions and promtional materials with help from faciitators.

Data analysis was no different! during meetings group members analysed the data alongside facilitator Vic and developed themes

The group presented their study at the 2024 RCPCH Conference in Birmingham & the next steps are to develop a customisable letter template for clinical staff to use to communicate with educational settings that will help improve the exam expereinces of patients.
