As 2023 draws to a close we can celebrate the continued growth of the Register and the CRP community and look forward to new opportunities in 2024. Once again a huge thank you to all of you who have found the time to submit your applications and show your commitment.

In this month's bulletin we see a  CRP Engagment Lead leaving his role, a learning event and some tools to help support your application.

AHA Awards 

Entry for the Advancing Healthcare Awards 2024 is now open!

 

These awards shine a spotlight on the amazing work of healthcare scientists and allied health professionals across the UK.

 

This year the Academy for Healthcare Science are proud to be sponsoring two awards:

 

 

These two new awards are aimed to celebrate scientists and healthcare professionals who thought outside the box to solve unexpected or longstanding problems and for those who are the most inspirational, up and coming people in your place of work.

 

The entry period for nominations for these two awards, as well as all the other brilliant awards at the Advancing Healthcare Awards UK 2024, is now open and the closing date is 2nd February 2024 so get your application in quick!

Happy Holidays

As we approach the end of another year I want to say a huge thank you to our ever growing community of Clinical Research Practitioners. We now have 256 Clinical Research Practitioner registrants since the launch of the register in March 2021! We are seeing a steady increase each month which is a great achievement and in addition this, we have over 2,000 members listed on the Clinical Research Practitioner Directory.

 

The Experienced Practitioner Gateway was launched January this year and as of 8th December, we have held five Gateway panels with another 4 panels due to take place next year. Keep your eye pealed on the AHCS website as we will publishing those panel dates in due course.

 

There has been 64 Clinical Research Practitioners who have successfully passed through the Experienced Practitioner Gateway with a quarter of those already registered with the Clinical Research Practitioner Register!

 

We are wishing you a happy and peaceful festive season.


Request for contributions to showcase CRP roles

Deirdre Brooking, CRP Strategic Engagement Lead at the NIHR Clinical Research Network national coordinating centre, is compliling a publication to raise awareness of the vital contribution that CRPs make to capacity and capability to deliver health and care research, and to promote both the profession and the wide range of career development opportunities that are being embraced in this flourishing part of the research workforce.

 

Deirdre would like to include role descriptions from any CRPs who are leading in their field, crossing boundaries, or who have a Rresearch delivery role that is influencing Workforce Development in their Trust, or locality. 

 

Please share a description of your role with Deirdre via this Google Form by 31st January 2024.

Continuing your CRP Directory listing and your CRP registration

Are your details accurate and your CPD records up-to-date?


Have you have signed up to the CRP Directory or been accepted onto the CRP Accredited Register?  Please take a few minutes to check that your details are correct.  Perhaps you've had a name change, or changed employer or maybe there is a slight error in your details.  Take a look and then if any details need changing please contact crpadmin@ahcs.ac.uk and they will be able to amend your details for you.  Thank you.

Need help completing your Clinical Research Practitioner register application or you are supporting someone to complete their application?  Then come along to one of our drop in sessions.   No need to book, just turn up and  stay as long as you like.    Bring along any questions or reflections you may have.

How to start a Clinical Research Practitioner Register application

Once you have successfully joined the Clinical Research Practitioner Directory, the next step is to join the Clinical Research Practitioner (CRP) Register.  A summary of the routes to CRP Registration can be viewed here

If you fulfill the criteria to apply to join the Register without firstly going through the Experienced Practitioner Gateway, see the steps below.  If you are firstly confirming your eligibility through the Experienced Practitioner Gateway, these will come later.

1. Log onto your AHCS account using your login credentials - https://crpregister.ahcs.ac.uk/

2. Once you are logged into your account, you will see a 'New Application' icon on your home screen page, please click on this.

3. The next page will load, from there, please click on the ‘Start Application’ button next to the ‘Clinical Research Practitioner Register’ box.

4. From here, you will have access to your application where you will be able to complete and submit your register application.

 All your progress is saved automatically and you don't need to start and complete your application in one sitting. You will be able to log-on to your account and see the outstanding register modules that need completing, you will be able to continue updating your register application at any time.

Next time you want to access your application, you will need to login to your account and your Register application will be accessible from their dashboard.


Look out for a survey coming in January


The NIHR would like to know how best to support the CRP Directory Community.

An invitation to participate in a survey will be coming early in 2024 to all practitioners who have joined the CRP Directory.

The aim will be to understand what would best support you and your managers with progressing an application to join the AHCS Accredited Register for CRPs.

There will also be an opportunity to become involved in supporting development of digital tools for the CRP community of practice.

Learn about the new Senior Clinical and Practitioner Research Award

Dear Colleagues,

 

Following the recent announcement of an additional £30 million per year to increase research opportunities for health and care professionals, NIHR is pleased to announce the first round of the new NIHR Senior Clinical and Practitioner Research Award launched on 2 October. The competition is due to close on Tuesday 23 January 2024.


These awards are designed to help embed individuals looking to undertake research activity within clinical and practice settings. The award is designed to cover a wide range of research activities including: leading research projects, preparing for future applications for research funding, undertaking strategic leadership around research delivery (e.g. delivery methodology), identifying research priorities, knowledge mobilisation and undertaking research relevant training and development.  

 

The award provides up to 5 years of funding for individuals at the post-doctoral level to engage in research activities, and will provide funding for between 20 and 50% protected time from within the individual’s current role to cover salary, training, and development.

ICS Learning Event 

Dear Clinical Research Practitioners

The NIHR CRN Health and Care Engagement team is pleased to announce that registration to the “Integrated Care Systems and Research Learning Event” is now open.

 

The event is online and will take place on Wednesday 24th January 2024, starting at 10am and will be running until 3pm. This online conference is free to all delegates, and sign up can be found here.  

 

Drawing on their experiences engaging with Integrated Care Systems, speakers and contributors will share their perspectives on how Integrated Care Systems can maximise the benefits of research. Our speakers include representatives from the NHS Confederation, NHS England and Department of Health, along with colleagues from the Local Clinical Research Networks.
