FAQs

Q1. Can a registered Clinical Research Practitioner have a developmental conversation with an applicant?

a. Unfortunately, a registered Clinical Research Practitioner cannot have a developmental conversation with the applicant who is submitting their application. The discussion of the applicants practice knowledge and development needs to be signed off by an individual on a statutory register and in addition, the applicant cannot sign this.

An applicant will need to liaise with an individual on a statutory register to have a discussion of their practice knowledge and development. Once an applicant have had the discussion, they need to provide the following:

Q2. I am completing my registration application, are there any common pitfalls that I should avoid?

a. To avoid a registration application going back to you, you should be aware of the common pitfalls when completing your portfolio evidence:

Good Clinical Practice: In line with the Clinical Research Practitioner Register entry

criteria; it is a requirement to upload the Good Clinical Practice certificate. All

applicants who apply to join the Register will need to upload their certificate into the

Education and Training section of their Register application.

Referring to the Standards of Proficiency (SOP): Within all the Reflection

documents, an applicant needs to refer to a SOP and provide examples of how they

meet the SOP.

For instance, the Reflection Account 1.2 Leadership, an applicant needs to select one

or more of the SOP's (15 and 16) and provide a reflection upon their leadership in

practice. The applicant can select standard 15.2 and provide a reflection upon how

they can demonstrate an understanding of their own role and enter into coaching

and mentoring relationships to develop their leadership style.

Documented Assurance and Line Manager Confirmation: When an applicant

completes the Documented Assurance and Line Manager Confirmation, a common

pitfall is the applicants line manager not signing to state that the applicant is

working at the level of practitioner. In section 2.3 of the document, the applicants

current line manager needs to sign the 'line manager confirmation checklist'. The

boxes can either be ticked or highlighted; by signing the boxes, the line manager is

acknowledging that the applicant is working at the level of practitioner.

Fiona Richardson from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn and one of our current CRP advocates will be stepping into the role alongside current CRP engagement lead Lindsay. Thank you to Emily for all her hard work over the past year and we wish her all the best.

Statement from Emily

I would like to express my thanks to the CRP engagement leads, advocates from the East of England (EoE) and the CRN staff for all their hard work and support this past year.  It has been a pleasure to work with you all. And also to the wider CRP community.  It has been wonderful to see the progress in the profile and opportunities available to CRPs and with so much exciting work going on I know there will be lots of exciting changes when I return next September.

Introducing Fiona

I am a registered Clinical Research Practitioner at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn. I have been working as a CRP for the past 2 years and have been an advocate for a year. I have created the CRP Support Group on Facebook which is used to keep members informed about any opportunities or updates as well as being a space where CRPs can find support from others. I have enjoyed being a part of the development of the CRP role and I am looking forward to being even more involved as an engagement lead. Thank you to the CRP engagement leads and advocates for the support and hard work over the past year, it has been exciting to see the progress we have made already.
