In the West Midlands, with a population of over five million, we have access to one of the largest and most diverse populations in the whole of the UK. With a proven track record and region wide infrastructure established we are in an ideal position to support the delivery of vaccine trials. Read on to find out more...
We have founded a West Midlands Vaccine Committee which is a group of established research sites with capabilities and experience in delivering Phase I - phase IV commercial vaccine trials. The aim of this group is to share resources, mentoring and best practice across the region. This committee has the capability to deliver research at scale by setting up hub sites for vaccine trials and then delivering follow up for patients closer to their home. Newly released HRA model contracting simplifies this process
We have an established model of setting up Patient Identification centres across all clinical settings
We are the leading CRN for health informatics expertise enabling wide scale screening and identification of eligible participants to refer into trials from primary care to any other research location
We have a flexible workforce that can be accessed to support research sites with the delivery of studies including research nurses, pharmacy support, data and project assistant support. This is a system that provides a single point of access to request further staff resources from the CRN prioritised by need and study complexity
We have strong relationships with community and non-nhs settings which can support study marketing and patient recruitment
We have a CRN West Midlands Young Research champions group which consists of young people aged 8-17 who meet monthly to work with researchers to ensure research is accessible and appropriate for children and young people. The group are extremely passionate and get involved in the complete research cycle and can work with parents and other young people through schools to get a wide range of diverse views
Our Industry Team is there to support organisations working at scale via support with:
Contract use i.e. PIC model contracts and Hub and Spoke Model contracts
Ensuring Site Identification/Intelligence data is accurate, efficient and targets set are realistic
Proactive recruitment monitoring throughout the life cycle of the study through the use of shared data platforms across the Network to ensure that we can identify any issues and resolve quickly, sharing best practice to avoid compromising recruitment to time and target
Acting as the point of escalation for any ongoing issues
Review commercial trials/sites at closure to capture lessons learnt for future studies
