• COAT (Cellulitis Optimal Antibiotic Treatment)

Type of Study: Phase III blinded, multi-centre, non-inferiority trial

Study Aim: To assess whether lower limb cellulitis can safely be treated with a 5 day course of antibiotics by conducting a placebo-controlled RCT of 5 vs 7 days of oral flucloxacillin.

• DURATION

Type of Study: An open-label, parallel group, multi-arm randomised trial with two sub-trials enrolling patients with: 1) cystitis, and 2) pyelonephritis. 

Study Aim: To find the shortest antibiotic treatment duration needed to treat urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women effectively. We will also look at the impact of each antibiotic and treatment duration on antibiotic resistance

• The DaRe2THINK Trial (Preventing stroke, premature death and cognitive decline in a broader community of patients with atrial fibrillation using healthcare data for pragmatic research)

Type of Study: Individual-patient, randomised, parallel-group, open-label, event-driven superiority trial
Note - Practices need to have signed up to Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) to participate.

Study Aim: To test the hypothesis that DOACs are effective and cost-effective in patients with AF at low or intermediate risk of stroke.

• DEFINE-RCT (Determining the Effectiveness of a FeNO-guided asthma management INtervEntion in primary care)

Type of Study: Pragmatic parallel open randomised controlled trial

Study Aim: To determine whether use of an online FeNO-guided asthma management intervention (the FeNO web tool) in primary care reduces the proportion of asthma patients who experience an acute exacerbation of asthma over a 12-month period.

• Integrated Bipolar Parenting Intervention

Type of Study: Database search and mailout (PIC)

Study Aim: To support an underserved population by assessing whether providing parents who experience bipolar disorder with online parenting support leads to their children having fewer behavioural problems.

• OPTIMISE 2 (Optimising Prescription of Treatment In older patients with Mild hypertension at Increased risk of Serious adverse Events) 

Type of Study: Primary care based, individually randomised, controlled, non-inferiority design

Study Aim: This trial will establish whether deprescribing common drugs that lower blood pressure is safe or effective in older people in the longer term (a year or more).

• PETRUSHKA (Personalise antidepressant treatment for unipolar depression combining individual choices, risks and big data)

Type of Study: Phase IV, randomised, single-blind, superiority trial comparing the PETRUSHKA Tool with usual care (1:1) in patients with depression

Study Aim: To assess a personalised approach in adults with major depression in a real-world NHS setting, known as the PETRUSHKA tool, informed by the best available evidence.

• REDUCE CARBON (RandomisED control trial to Understand whether prescribing Choice for inhalErs is influenced by knowledge of the CARBON footprint)

Type of Study: Randomised control trial delivered through a short, online questionnaire 

Study Aim: To assess whether the inclusion of carbon footprint information in asthma guidelines influences HCP inhaler preference.

• The REFLEX  Study (Reflex testing for metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) in patients living with type 2 diabetes compared to usual care 

Type of Study: Randomised control trial.      Participant Identification only.

Study Aim: To test a new way of identifying liver disease in people living with type 2 diabetes (T2DM).

• The RELIEF trial (Randomised controlled trial of a new relief inhaler in mild asthma)

Type of Study: A multicentre, 1:1 randomised, open-label, standard care-controlled trial

Study Aim: To determine the clinical effectiveness, cost effectiveness and acceptability, of replacing short-acting beta agonists (SABA) inhalers, containing Salbutamol, with inhalers containing ICS/formoterol in patients with asthma treated with low dose inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) maintenance treatment.

• RELOAD (Respiratory disease progression through Longitudinal Audio Data machine learning)

Type of Study:  Feasibility study. 

Study Aim:  ·  To assess the feasibility of collecting longitudinal audio (including standardised voice and breathing tasks) and linked clinical data in order to develop prognostic tools

Type of Study: Staff interview study

Study Aim: To improve understanding of the link between loneliness or social isolation and multiple long-term conditions.

• TIGER (Trial of food allergy (IgE) tests for eczema relief)
