POP Cycle - The Unannounced Observation

1. Analyzing the Lesson Plan

Instructions: 

• Individually analyze the Algebra 1 lesson plan (Participant Guide pages 49-50).

• Use the Planning domain and the evidence sheet on page 62-63 in your participant guide to record any evidence you capture from the plan for:

  • Instructional Plans

  • Student Work

  • Assessment

2. Observation Reminders

Instructions: 

• View the video linked below prior to engaging in the lesson observation.

3. View the Algebra Lesson

Instructions: 

• As you view this lesson, gather evidence by scripting and utilize the tips in the previous video.

4. Analyze and Rate the Lesson

Instructions: 

• Use your notes and evidence to independently analyze and rate this lesson for all teaching standards from the Instruction, Environment, and Planning domains:

  • Categorize evidence

  • Calibrate and assign final ratings for all 19 teaching standards

5. Submit your Ratings and Reflections

Instructions: 

• Submit your responses using the survey link below. The survey will ask you to provide:

• Your ratings on the 19 indicators

• Short overall reflection (1-3 sentences) on the quality of the lesson

• Outstanding questions on the POP cycle
