Student Voice

DOCUMENT CAMERA RECORDING

I wanted to send out a quick email to explain some work Rachel Skinkis and I have been doing in her classroom focusing on student explanation and reflection videos.

Students use a document camera to record their thinking as they solve a problem.

This is very powerful for both the teacher and student. The teacher gets to hear students' authentic thinking. The student, as they explain, gain a deeper understanding of the strategy or topic in class.

Sara uses FlipGrid in her classroom to promote student voice and discussion. Students record themselves sharing ideas and reflecting on topics and things discussed in class about automation and robotics.

It is very powerful when students can hear others explain how they solved a problem or where they may have went wrong in their thinking.

Sara creates a grid in flipgrid.com and sends it out via google classroom to her students so they can respond.

Nice job, Sara! Students are collaborating, recording their thinking, and having a little bit of fun--it's a win, win!

Here is a student example.
