ABOUT:
One-year program that prepares students for employment as a Nurse’s Aide/Home Health Aide, and/or for entry into a practical nursing program as well as other health occupations
Students receive clinical training in a health care facility
Students that successfully complete the program and meet the standards established by the State Board of Nursing and New Horizons are eligible to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment examination to become a Certified Nurse Aide in Virginia
Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a job growth of 17% from 2014-2024 (much faster than average)
STUDENTS STUDY:
Medical terminology
Normal growth and development
Taking and recording vital signs
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Bathing, feeding, dressing, and transporting patients in hospitals and nursing homes
Catheter Care
Range of motion
Bowel and bladder training
Care of the dying
Maternal and infant care
Nutrition
Admission and discharge procedures
Legal and ethical issues
Communication
Common health problems
PREREQUISITES:
Biology, good academic standing, attendance, and behavior.
Per the VA State Board of Nursing, students must not have a mental, physical, or chemical dependency condition which could interfere with their current ability to practice as a nurse aide

SESSIONS: A.M and P.M
CLASS SIZE: 20 per session
CREDENTIALS: Three elective high school credits: one verified credit (must pass Certified Nurse Aide Assessment or NOCTI Assessment). American Heart Association(AHA), Basic Life Support(BLS), AHA First Aid
