BIO:

I am a Portsmouth, VA native. I started working for the Federal Government at the age of 16. I was a summer and student aid worker for the Supervisor of Shipbuilding in 1983 and 1985. I joined the Virginia Army National Guard in 1985. I served six successful years as Fire Directional Control Operator. After attending Norfolk State University in 1985, I was offered an apprenticeship with Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Shop 99 as a Sheet Metal Mechanic in 1986. I successfully completed a four year program, graduating six months early and I received my Journeymen in Sheet Metal in 1989. In 1992, I joined Virginia Air National Guard and chose a career in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R). My training was held at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas, where I graduated with honors with the highest average in my class. I had another opportunity to receive another Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) from the Air Force in Metal Technology (Machining and Welding) in 1998. In all AFSC career fields with the Air Force, I received my seven levels in each AFSC career field I certified in, designating me as a Master Craftsmen. I received Associate Degrees in Mechanical & Electrical Technology, and Metal Technology from The Community College of the Air Force. My career has placed me with most of the branches of the Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard). In 2009, I rejoined the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in a new career path of Physical Science Technician, better known as RADCON. Currently, I hold a Class A Contractor License in the state of Virginia with the designation of Building, Master HVAC and Gas Fitter, and I use that knowledge and expertise in my new journey with New Horizons as an HVAC Instructor.
