Guess what—Next has a blog. It only has a few entries, and none are written by students…yet. The hype around blogging died years ago, but they are still alive and well. Blogs offer a great model for writing practice because they have one simple goal: disseminate information in a context that engages audiences. Students in this class will do just that and create a blog to be shared on Next’s website (that’s where the blog is).

Kody Evans: "My own perspective has changed after consuming various forms of media, including movies, books, and even songs. Many things are created with some sort of message or bigger picture in mind, regardless of how deep you have to dig to find them. One of the most important instances for me, a series I hold dear to my heart, is the sci-fi dystopian web series Alien Stage..."
Jessie Campbell: "Time moves fast. It's easy to get caught up in everything going on. But honestly, a lot of older people feel forgotten and lonely. Without a doubt, one day you'll wish you had just one more conversation with your loved ones. Those talks mean a lot more to them than you may think..."
Izi Nieves: "When I was about 12, my dad passed away. I shut everyone out and became aggressive, trying to protect myself from grief. Grief is a complex emotion. Unlike a lot of other feelings, grief is extremely hard to capture fully in words. Grief is something we all experience at different points..."
Calleigh Thompson: "Before even thinking about joining the hiking club, I was a person who would stay inside and read a book for fun. Adventure wasn’t really my thing; exploring, seeing, and being outside in general sounded so boring to me that I didn't really want to join the hiking club at first, but then I thought to myself that I needed a challenge in my life..."
Amanda Bemiller: "When I was in Middle School, I would procrastinate like any other kid would do, but as I grew up and moved on to High School, it only got worse from there. Right now, as I’m writing this, I am in my Senior year. I have lost a lot of motivation for things overall lately, and I don’t really know why. Some days I don’t want to do anything, other days I do..."
Alexa Farro: "There is something about the air at Canobie, with the aroma of fried dough, the people screaming in the background, and the fun music playing throughout the park. It's a place where, no matter your age, you can feel like a kid. I, for one, always felt that if I go to Canobie, the day is already perfect. On my 11th birthday..."
