Week ending

Friday 28th March 2024

Dear Families,

What an amazing but short term we have had! Winter, Chinese New Year, the Amazon Rainforest, Life Cycles and Spring/Easter! All of our topics have been amazing and we've seen such excitement, creativity and amazing progress from each and every one of your wonderful children. It is so magical to see the wonder and awe in their little faces when exploring, experimenting and learning new things! Thank-you to all of you for coming to chat about your child last week and for working in partnership with us to find the best way to unlock your child's full potential together.

After the Easter holidays, we start the term with the Hindu festival of Holi (also known as the Festival of Colour, the Festival of Spring or The Festival of Love!), which is a fantastic gateway into the topic thereafter, Colours! Very exciting! We will be doing lots of colour mixing, learning about Primary and Secondary colours and even tints!

We wish you all a most wonderful holiday and a fun-packed, or just restful, Easter weekend! Don't forget to take lots of photos of special moments so you can share them with us, and perhaps add them to your child's Profiles.

See you in the Summer term!

Best wishes from the Nursery Team

Goodbye, Ms Juarez!

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our wonderful Red Panda teacher, Ms Juarez today to spread her lovely wings and fly away to Germany for a new chapter in her life.

We wish her all the luck in the world and a fantastic new future ahead of her.

We will miss her very much!

Farewell, Ms Juarez!

Welcome, Ms Arefa!

We will be welcoming Ms Arefa to the Nursery team in the Summer term for our morning sessions. Ms Arefa is a well-known teaching assistant who knows a lot of our children from Breakfast Club and After School Club.

Welcome, Ms Arefa!

Dear Parents,

It has been a pleasure being part of your child's learning journey. I have enjoyed every minute spent with them and I am sure they will all shine everywhere they go. I will miss them dearly and they will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you for all your support and for allowing me to take care of your most precious treasure!

Lots of love,

Ms Juarez

New life, Spring and Easter fun!

We talked about new life, Spring and Easter and how it it is all linked up. We also talked about how Spring can be a very mixed-up season of all sorts of weather! We have also noticed that our bulbs have begun growing in the Woodland Area and are a little disappointed that their flowers might pop out when we are on holiday! But when we come back, we are sure to have a much greener space!

P.E. in the big playground

What fun! We did runner beans, beans on toast, jumping beans, French beans (ooh-la-la!), jelly beans and frozen beans! We also practised our throwing skills.

Take-off! We are flying away for our Easter Holidays!

Bake Sale for Parkinson's charity

A big thank-you to Kitty's parents for organising an amazing Bake Sale for a charity that is very close to their heart. Thank-you all, too, for supporting this cause by buying a cake or making a donation.

On Thursday, the Easter Bunny came to visit!

We chatted about the different traditions that people might do during Easter and we all experienced an Easter egg hunt in the Nursery playground. Those last eggs were really tricky to find!

How is the metamorphosis going?

Our caterpillars are in chrysalises and we have been holding thumbs that they would emerge before the holidays. Unfortunately...no such luck! So we are very grateful to  Rocco's family for accepting the challenge of taking them home. The family will take special care of them until they emerge as butterflies and are ready to be released into the wild. Rocco's mum have been very kind to agree to take photos for us and, if possible, some videos. Thank-you!

But don't worry! We have ordered some more caterpillars for next term so that we are sure that we will all see the magical moment of the butterflies emerging!

The Kindness Award

This week, the Kindness Award goes to Ms Juarez, of course! For being the most fantastic, kind, lovely teacher to every adult and every child...always! We'll miss you so much!

Our Book this week: We're going on an Egg Hunt

Click on the picture below to listen to the story with your child, then ask them the suggested questions.

"Can you name the creatures that were found along the way during the Easter egg hunt?"

"How many eggs did the bunnies find?"

"Where in the Nursery playground did you find your Easter egg?"

Our Songs and Rhymes this week

Click on the picture below to listen to the song/rhyme with your child. Please practise every day.

Hot Cross Buns with slightly different wording.

Our words this week

We have learnt the words below this week.  Can you ask your child the suggested questions and encourage them to use the words in a sentence?

What do children do to celebrate Easter?

Does everybody celebrate Easter?

What other celebrations do you know?

Why might there be lots of eggs in nature around Springtime?

Can you name some animals that hatch out of eggs?

Why do people give eggs at Easter time?

Who do Christian people believe got new life on Easter Sunday?

Our Maths learning this week

This week in Maths we have consolidating our knowledge about shapes. We have been recapping the names of some shapes and we have experimented with tessellations.

The 5 Shelves

We have been spending a lot of time at our 5 Shelves and learning how to use it. The children have learnt quickly learning that everything on the shelf is in a set of 5. We have already seem counting skills improving, especially at tidy-up time where the children know the rule that they have to make sure every container has its set of 5. The 5 jars have been very popular! How about making some 5 jars for your child to use to home?

Activities to try at home this holiday

Try out these activities with your child this holiday.  Please bring your lovely work to show us or email some photos to us.

Make your own 5 Jars

You can purchase inexpensive little plastic jars at the household items shop on Stoke Newington High Street or use any empty jars you have already. Encourage your child to fill the jars with 5 of the same items. You can then play all sorts of Maths games with them, combing jars for addition, sharing out items with toys and lots more! The rule is to replace 5 items in each jar when it is time to tidy up which reinforces these counting skills fantastically!

Paint an Easter egg - using real boiled eggs

Use food colouring and vinegar. Or if you can get hold of some from the craft shop, acrylic paints! There are plenty of ideas on Youtube - I have just attached two.

Easter crafts!

Choose your favourite or think of your own. How about using egg boxes to make Easter bunnies and a little bank of burrows?

Have a look at these fun activities for children in London over the Easter break!

Interested in our next topic? Do a little research about what happens during the festival of Holi.

Don't forget to keep practising your name, your drawing and your counting every day!

Summer term start date

We are back for our Summer term on Tuesday 16th April 2024. Let's practise standing in our line right from the start so you are all ready when we come out to collect you.

Looking forward to a great new term!

Thank-you so much for your donations!

A very big thank-you if you were able to contribute towards our chick eggs. We know all too well how tight things are with money these days and "every little helps"!

A very big thank-you also to two large surprise donations from a pair of parents. So generous and we appreciate it so much. This has made it possible for us to reach our target to be able to order the chicks for Summer 2nd half. They arrive on 10th June during our Farm Animals topic. Also, our second donation has kindly made it possible for us to plan an order for some lovely new resources for our outdoor learning, perhaps even wellies for the Woodland Area! Thank-you so much!

Any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to call the school office on 0208 802 4051 or email the team via the school office: gboffice@newwavefederation.co.uk
