Week ending

Friday 17th November 2023

Dear Families,

As our Autumn topic comes to a close, we remember all the wonderful things we learnt.  We have especially enjoyed using all the fantastic Autumn treasures we have been finding.  Thank-you to all of you who contributed to our supplies!  It has been great to use real Autumn objects to contextualise our topic! This week, we also had some visitors talking about Road Safety and also have a lovely volunteer, Amelie, who has joined us who will be with us every morning until Christmas break.

Next week, we will be moving on to our new topic, Occupations and we'll be starting off with the question "Who helps us feel better?" We would love to know whether you have an occupation and whether you would like to share it with us! Please see the noticeboard at the end.

Hope this weekend brings lots of fun!

Best wishes from the Nursery Team.

Road Safety Workshop

We were very lucky to have some visitors in our Nursery this week, teaching us all about how to cross the road safety.

The children learnt to "Stop, look, listen, think!" and were taught to always hold an adult's hand.

Leaves, leaves and more Autumn leaves!

Look at all the different things we did around Autumn leaves! Thank-you to thiose of you who brought your own Autumn treasures in too!

Look at the amazing Autumn treasures some of you brought in to share!

Practising our cutting skills

We have been practising really hard to hold our scissors in the right way, to snip pieces, to cut along straight lines and eventually to cut around shapes which have curved edges.

Our little conker thief!

Here is the culprit again! Our little squirrel who has been stealing ALL of our conkers when we turn our backs! He (we think he is a "he") is becoming so daring that he will sneak right into the classroom to try to steal our conkers off of our Autumn table. We do love him and have watched as he has scampered off into our Woodland Area with our conkers. Watch the video to see him deciding on somewhere to bury one.

We want to give him a name. Can you think of some names and bring your ideas in next week?

Children in Need

Today was Children in Need day. We talked about how lucky we are to have what we have and then about those children who are not as fortunate. We "met" Pudsey the Bear by finding him on the internet. Pudsey raises money for Children in Need all around the UK. Some of us made Pudsey stick puppets. We took your very generous donations to Pam in the office so that they could be collected with the Grazebrook donations. Thank-you so much!

The Kindness Awards

Well-done for winning the Kindness Awards this week, Mustafa and Taslima! Mustafa and Taslima have been playing together beautifully this week and showing their kindness to each other by sharing their toys. They have also both been extra kind to some other children and helping them when they have need help.

Our Book this week: Leaf Man

Click on the picture below to listen to the story with your child, then ask them the suggested questions.

What creatures did Leaf Man see on his journey?

Which areas did Leaf Man fly over?

We made Leaf Man! Can you make Leaf Man at home?

Our Song/Rhyme this week

Click on the picture below to listen to the song/rhyme with your child. Please practise every day.

We've had so much rain lately that we thought we'd learn Doctor Foster!

Our words this week

We have learnt the words below this week.  Can you ask your child the suggested questions to encourage them to use the words in a sentence?

What does a conker look like? Can you find out what tree a conker comes from?

What can be found in between the scales of the pine cone? Can you find out what tree a pine cone comes from?

Which animal really loves eating acorns? Can you find out what tree an acorn comes from?

What type of trees do you find in an orchard?

What colours might you see in a meadow? What animals might you see in a meadow?

What is a marsh like?

Our Maths learning this week

Number 3!

This week, we began talking about number 3 and everything that makes 3, including. We added 1, 2 and 3, subtracted from 3, counted out 3 and used 5 frames to fill only 3 spaces. We changed our 2 Shelves to 3 Shelves! Now everything on the shelves have 3 of each thing and at tidy-up time, we practise counting out 3 a LOT!

Adding 3 Autumn leaves ONLY to our 5 frames.

Activities to try at home this weekend

Try out these activities with your child this weekend.  Please bring your lovely learning in to show us or send us a photo!

Make your own Leaf Man

Did you find Leaf Man in a pile of leaves?  Can you put him back together again?  Can you make some other characters from the story using leaves? Or how about some other leaf crafts?

Make your name

Make your name and display it at home.  Have a look at the ideas below.  You could use one of these ideas or think of your own idea!

Please also make sure you practise writing your name at least once a day at home.  You might just be practising your first letter or it could be all of the letters.  Use a capital letter for the beginning of your name and lower case for the other letters.

Practise counting out sets of 3

Use anything you can find to count out sets of 3. Use your imagination! How many will you have if you add two sets of 3 together? Or take one or two away from a set of 3?

Family Friday

Don't forget Family Friday next week!

Friday 24th November: 8.50 - 9.10.

See you there!

Occupations:

Do you have an occupation? We would love to know all about it. It would be so great to have some photos sent to us showing you in your profession, whatever it is, and especially if you wear a uniform! If you feel comfortable doing this, please ask a colleague to take a photo of you at your workplace along with something that typically shows your occupation. Even better would be some photos of the tools/equipment you use! You can send them to the school office email (found at the bottom of the page) for the attention of Nursery and let us know what you job title is so we can share the photos with the children.

Are you a police officer, doctor, nurse, dentist or firefighter? Or do you have a friend who is? We're am hoping to find some professionals in uniform who are willing to come in and have a short chat to our children about what they do.

Parent consultations

We will be holding parent consultations during the week of 27th November. Each family is allocated a 10 minute. Please sign up with us as soon as you can. Thank-you!

Any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to call the school office on 0208 802 4051 or email the team via the school office: gboffice@newwavefederation.co.uk
