Theresa Breland

Greetings and welcome to the Certificate in Teaching English (CTE)! With gratitude, I have been training teachers in the CTE program since 2007.

My professional experience started in the fashion industry and grew into earning an MA TESOL from Teachers College Columbia University. This combination has led me to teach English language learners (ELLs) at all proficiency levels, to educate teachers, and to train in the corporate context.

At The New School, I also teach ELLs in our Intensive English Program and courses in the university's faculty-training initiative. I'm a New York City native, so you'll find that the city inspires much of my work. My other passions include yoga, meditation, and playwriting. Teaching and learning occupy most of my days.

I teach English to dedicate my professional life to offering tools and opening paths. Teaching and learning are continuous and creative processes. Both include courage, reflection, and perseverance. As we cultivate our experiences, we can flourish by teaching and learning together.
