BAFA Advising is pleased to share dynamic (editable) semester-by-semester planners, linked below for your use.
Please note that these are not prescriptive or meant to replace the listing of academic requirements on the Academic Catalog or program websites. These planners are simply a modifiable and customizable resource to use in conjunction with other guides. We have pre-filled in requirements for each BFA degree to the best of our ability, but remember that these are completely editable and are meant to be used by students and their advisors to ideate and plan degree progress, and should not be the only resource you use.
Please be sure to confirm credit count and requirements on DegreeWorks, in the Academic Catalog, and/or on your Program's website. These planners do not promise graduation eligibility. Continue to connect with your advisors for confirmation.
Please do not directly edit these documents; make a personal copy to personalize. Instructions are available on the form.

The University Learning Center (ULC) is located at 66 West 12th Street on the sixth floor. For information about services, hours, and policies and to schedule an appointment, visit the ULC website, newschool.edu/learning-center.
The ULC helps students become better writers through individual tutoring sessions. Students can work with tutors on any phase of the writing process, from brainstorming ideas to developing an outline or rough draft to revising and editing. Tutoring is available for mathematics courses and math-inclusive courses, such as calculus, quantitative reasoning, statistics, economics, and math merchandising. Students can schedule one-hour appointments with a tutor using the ULC’s online e-scheduler, thenewschool. starfishsolutions.com/starfish-ops/support/login.html.
The ULC website includes instructions for first-time users as well as a link to the scheduler. The center also accepts walk-ins on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition, the ULC holds two to three academic skill-building workshops each month. Topics include structuring an argument, oral presentations, and time management. Check the website for dates and times.
The New School is the only university that houses a world-renowned design school, a liberal arts college, and a performing arts college under one roof. Interdisciplinary scholarship and study are available to undergraduates through our minors program, which offers you the opportunity to immerse yourself in a new discipline within or outside of your college. You can work with your BAFA advisor to select and declare a minor and to chart a curriculum to satisfy your major and minor requirements; BAFA students are generally able to take a minor from across the university, time and space pending.
Note that students must successfully complete a minimum of 14 credits of coursework in the minor at The New School. These credits must be distinct and may not also be applied to other program requirements, including the major, a second minor, and ULEC requirements. Exceptions may be made for foreign languages.

BA/BFA students may study abroad in either spring of year 3 or fall of year 5. Generally, they must choose if they are taking an abroad semester towards their BA or their BFA, and take coursework primarily for that degree while abroad. BAFA students who wish to complete a semester of study abroad (called “mobility” at the university) should consult with their advisor to ensure that their academic progress is considered. A mobility program must fit into a student’s overall academic plan. Students should also consult with an advisor working in the Study Abroad office.
Few study abroad programs incorporate both studio and liberal arts curricula, so BAFA students usually focus on one or the other requirement when researching their options. Students register for mobility through only one college, but BAFA students maintain their standing in both colleges while studying abroad.

The Making Center, a spacious studio bringing together creative tools from around the university, offers students unprecedented opportunities to acquire industry-ready skills, transform how products are made, and upend conventional notions of supply chains, local production, mass customization, and craft. Sharing this 26,000 square-foot space, students from all Parsons programs explore cutting-edge and traditional making technologies together. The center is located in the basement and on the second and third floors of the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center at 66 Fifth Avenue and 2 West 13th Street.
