“AVID” stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID is a year-long elective that helps students acquire skills & habits that help them become better students now as they embark on their journey to college & career.
AVID prepares students for higher education. With tutorials and a team of classmates to offer support, students see an improvement in grades and skills over the course of the year.
Note-taking, organizational, collaboratory, and inquiry are skills students will learn.

What is AVID?
AVID stands for "Advancement Via Individual Determination." It is a full year elective class that you take during the regular school day. The goal of an AVID student is to become more college ready by learning academic survival skills and getting a head start with college awareness. It is a high school credit for 8th grade students.
Who is an AVID student?
An AVID student is an individual who has great academic potential and desire to meet up to their goals. With determination, dedication, and diligence these students are able to meet the expectations of the AVID elective course and learn more fundamental skills to succeed in rigorous courses.
How are students selected?
Students are recommended by their teachers, grades, and in class behavior. Those who are interested in the class will have to make an application and qualify for an interview.
How are students supported in class?
AVID tutors are available in class to provide students support with AVID curriculum, tutoring and answering questions about college life. Students are also taught how to work with their peers in a positive manner while growing personally.
What are the expectations for AVID students?
Students are expected to maintain an organized binder/ebinder
Learn & consistently take focused notes
Participate in tutorials with peers & college tutors
Be a leader on campus
Monitor their grades regularly
Take academic responsibility
Build a friendly community in our classroom
