7th Grade Texas History: Course Description
In 7th grade, students will explore the ever changing and unique events that occurred in the Lone Star State. In this course, students will visit many aspects of Texas History, we will begin by diving into the vastly diverse biomes of Texas’ landscapes and how the native tribes to the area survived and flourished within it. Moving forward we discuss the importance of culture and how countries, such as Spain and France, impacted our current cultures present in not only San Antonio but all of Texas. The events of the Mexican and Texas Revolutions for Independence bring exciting and deep leadership discussions of integrity, bravery, and persistence. We will continue to look in depth at the fundamentals of Texas government, the big boom of Texas oil, and the present day systems in place that keep Texas running smoothly. It will be a fun adventure rolling through the wide open plains of Texas History.
In addition to our exciting and engaging content, 7th graders will be given the opportunity to act as docents to 4th grade students for a full day field trip experience through Texas History. Students will memorize lines for their assigned roles amongst the 11 stations currently in place on the grounds of Bradley Middle School. As 4th grade students rotate through the presentations, they will step back in time and experience aspects of Texas history such as pioneer living, how to make adobe and its uses, how to create Lower Pecos rock art. Students will also learn about the life of cowboys on the trail as well as the life of the Native American Plains Indians. Field trips are offered from mid February until the end of May.
