What is the Mission Statement of the Bradley Choir Program?
The Bradley Middle School Choir Program will actively work to create a quality musical experience, to strive for excellence in both individual and group efforts, to develop a sense of community among its members, to foster the love of vocal music, and to share that appreciation with its audiences.
What if my child is not a “good singer”?
EVERY student, no matter their ability is welcome in the Bradley Choir Program! They can be taught to match pitch and sing well and as their confidence grows, their singing will improve.
Can my child join choir in the 7th or 8th grade even if they weren’t in choir in 6th grade?
ABSOLUTELY! Students may join choir at any level and with a little extra effort, will quickly catch on to the basic concepts and skills they may have missed as a 6th grade choir student.
What musical concepts will my child be learning?
As a choir member, students will learn healthy vocal production as well as music theory, sight reading skills and ear training skills. Attention to blend, balance and tone within the choir is also addressed.
What kind of time commitment is expected of my child before and after school?
The time commitment is directly related to which choir your student belongs to. Each choir has a list of required dates that includes additional rehearsals and performances outside of the regular school day. Choir is a co-curricular class and therefore participation in extra rehearsals and performances are part of the student’s grade. Most choirs participate in four to five concerts a year and seven to eight outside of school rehearsals. However, intermediate and advanced choir students may be required to attend more depending on the season and if they opt to participate in the individual contests offered. All dates are communicated in a timely manner to avoid last minute conflicts and special circumstances are taken into consideration.
What is the cost involved with choir?
Students will be required to buy a choir shirt that is used as the uniform for Beginner Choir and as the informal uniform for Intermediate and Advanced Choirs. Shirts cost approximately $15.00 and can be used for all of the years that your child remains in the Bradley Choir Program so you only need purchase one time. Intermediate and Advanced Choir members will also pay a Uniform Rental Fee of $20-25 which covers the cost of upkeep and drycleaning of our formal uniforms. Financial assistance is available to students if needed.
What competitions are available to my child?
Students in choir have the opportunity to compete for solos and other special parts within their class period. Solo Contest is also offered to all interested choir students. Intermediate and Advanced Choir students will participate in the UIL Concert and Sightreading Evaluation as part of the class curriculum as well as having the opportunity to audition for the All-Region Choir.
