PROFESSIONAL LEARNING

CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

WHAT IS PLCP?

The Professional Learning Certification Program (PLCP) is designed to support teachers who arrive in education through a non-traditional pathway; who bring alternative experiences and certifications to the education world. PLCP aids with understanding best practices in education and allows a "real life" experience similar to the "internship" or "teaching practicum" that a teacher traditionally trained in education receives.  This process should be supported by school administration, and has a requirement of weekly meetings with a district assigned mentor.

Florida’s PLCP is a competency-based, on-the-job training in professional education competencies (Florida Educator Accomplished Practices) that prepares alternatively certified teachers on a temporary certificate in becoming high quality educators for Florida’s public school districts. It is authorized by section 1012.56(8), Florida Statutes.

PLCP GOALS & REQUIREMENTS

MENTOR SUPPORT

A NEFEC coordinator supports teachers in the PLCP by providing feedback and support in completing the required competencies and tasks. A district clinical educator (mentor teacher) also supports the PLCP teacher by providing coaching and resources during the induction period. In addition, this mentor teacher receives on-going training from NEFEC in order to stay abreast of required components of the program. Participation in NEFEC's PLCP is of no cost to participants as it is included in the district costs paid through the Instructional Services Program.

This year, Mentor Network will be divided into two options!  First will be the Mentor Network meetings with a goal of understanding the mentorship role.  There will also be options to support the actual work of mentors through Walkthroughs and providing Feedback for Growth!

Alternatively certified teachers bring a wealth of knowledge to the educational world, however, there are many teacher specific tools that are needed.  PLCP now has numerous, optional professional learning opportunities available including Virtual Sessions, face to face New Teacher Network meetings, Mentor Network meetings, and Clinical Educator Training (to become a certified mentor).
