District Image*
*District Image - An “image” is a packaged set of software and other applications. The district will have a consistent set of installed software and resources. These resources will allow for communication, creation, and delivery of 21st-century instructional strategies with appropriate tools.
For certain roles, levels, and applications, the district will provide specific tools and resources that may not be required by all users. These resources will be at the discretion of the Director of Instructional Technology in collaboration with the Technology Department and other appropriate stakeholders.
To ensure a consistent user experience, and allow for efficient and cost-effective support, all technology purchases must flow through the Technology Department for approval. This includes outside purchases, grants, donations, and any other technology resources to be used throughout NJSD.
All individual needs or requests for software not included in the basic image need to be processed through the Technology Department.
Free Applications and services are a great way to explore and test new and emerging technologies. Teachers are encouraged to explore new tools and resources. Teachers are reminded that with free resources, data security, continued access, and availability of these resources can be removed at any time by the district, or by the actual application provider.
Teacher exploration and access to these free services is encouraged. Student access should be provided by requesting access to a service or an application on a trial basis, through the app approval process. Support for the use of free services is based on approval. The Technology Department does not ensure support of these resources until they have been vetted by the Technology and/or Curriculum Departments.
All Applications requiring fees, licensing and/or paid annual renewals need to be approved through the app approval process. Regardless of where funds and resources are generated, apps need to be approved to be used through the NJSD network. Before purchasing any paid for apps, requests should be submitted to ensure compatibility and accessibility on our network and hardware and instructional compatibility
As with local applications, paid for online services should be processed through the Technology Department. Paid for services are managed and supported through the Technology Department. Prior to purchasing any paid for service, the Technology Department, as well as appropriate curriculum, administrative or department leaders, should be consulted regarding funding.
