GT Families,
Our district gifted and talented department has created GT Goal Brochures to share the goals we are currently offering for students in math, reading, and affective (social-emotional). A lot of time was spent considering goals that we know our districts can confidently and faithfully implement for the gifted students in our region. Every district's brochures are different and dependent upon the resources they have and the courses/options they can offer. Our mission is to provide goals that will be followed through with fidelity by the GT coordinator, the classroom teacher(s), and the student.
Colorado law, the Exceptional Children’s Educational Act (ECEA), states the following requirements for gifted and talented student programming:
Administrative units shall implement gifted education student programs providing programming options and services for gifted children for at least the number of days calendared for the school year by each school district.
The Exceptional Children’s Educational Act also states:Â
Programming shall match the academic strengths and interests of the gifted student. Other educational or affective needs shall be addressed according to the individual student’s profile. 12.02(2)(h)(i)
Colorado State’s Gifted Identification Guidance Handbook states:
Once a student has been identified, programming continues through graduation. Once a student is identified for gifted services, they do not need to requalify at any point for gifted services. Annually, the programming the student is receiving is reviewed as part of the ALP development and should be adjusted to meet their current needs.
We welcome the opportunity to partner with you and your student every school year to provide gifted programming that meets his/her needs. Please reach out if you have any questions about the programming that is offered in your school district.
