Each Ultimate Scavenger Hunt brings it's own flavor to the party. Every year, students from 7th-12th grade are "In Search of . . " something and spend three days trying to define and find it! See below for various pictures, brochures, and even videos to see past years!
2023: In Search of the Future
In 2023, students were brought to La Foret Retreat Center in the Black Forest area. This event focused on changes coming to our world and how students could contribute and be prepared. We were joined by a professional artist, participated in a ropes course (teamwork!), climbed the zipline, and visited the Challenger Space Center in Colorado Springs to complete a space simulation mission.
For the 2022 spring event, we headed to Larkspur, CO and stayed at the Ponderosa Retreat and Conference Center. We had the privilege of having Emily Kircher-Morris, host of the Neurodiversity Podcast, speak to the students about finding balance in their lives. Students attended classes on mindful journaling, balancing stress, anxiety management, and overexcitabilities among others. They also had an opportunity to do crate stacking, participate in a low ropes course, and play human foosball. We even woke up to snow the morning of June 1!
Scavenger Hunt was cancelled for 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID Pandemic
2019: In Search of a Better World
This year was hosted at Highlands Presbyterian Retreat in Allenspark. The event was focused on Climate Change, and we were fortunate to host Dr. Scott Denning, professor of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University to kick off this event. He was fascinating! Students also got to visit NCAR (National Center for Atmospheric Research) in Boulder and participated in some fun workshops too (including canoeing!).
La Foret, in the Black Forest, was the beautiful site of the 2018 Ultimate Scavenger Hunt. For this event, we partnered with the Colorado Springs Conservatory to have students recreate fairy tales using hometown matter and creative skills (story writing, acting, dancing, singing, staging, etc.).
In 2017, we partnered with CU Boulder to host our students on their campus. In Search of Direction included workshops on making fire, using a compass to find their way, digging into the past to determine direction for the future, and lots of fun! CU Boulder provided an excellent video for us, which is loaded below. Be sure to see their article, here, if you want to read more about the event.
