After identification in a specific academic or talent aptitude area (or more than one area), a school will individually determine what programming they are able to offer their students. This will vary from school to school within Northeast BOCES. It can include, but is not limited to, acceleration, supplemental curriculum, enrichment programs, and/or extracurricular activities. Please check with your individual district to understand what opportunities and programming options they have available for gifted and talented students.
At a Northeast BOCES level, regional programming is offered to students a few times per year. The goal is to allow students to interact with each other across schools as well as receive higher-level exposure to activities that may not be otherwise available. As such, the social-emotional component of these events is just as important as the academic enrichment opportunity. An overview of the regional events offered is below.
Infusion Classes
These are a classic offering for our students in grades 3-8. These are offered in school, on a flexible time format. Please follow this link for more information and class descriptions!
Honors Classes
Honors Courses are available for 7th and 8th graders in English and Math. These are offered in school, and can be taken during a student's traditional English or Math time. Please see the link below for more information.
Student Regional Events
This is offered twice per year to 3rd-6th grade students who are either qualified as gifted or in the talent pool at their school. It is left up to school-level GT Coordinators to invite the appropriate students. Each year, the theme changes to "Celebrate" something new.
The fall event is offered in Limon (or a nearby school) and is put together and sponsored by East Central BOCES. This year, the fall event was held on October 14, 2024.
The Spring event is offered in Sterling at the Northeastern Junior College Campus and is organized by Northeast BOCES. This year, the event will be held on February 18, 2025.
The theme for the spring event will be Celebrating Creativity. To get an idea of the event, feel free to browse the past registration brochure below the last time this theme was used! Check out the pictures of the collaborative mural students completed representing famous artworks.
Scavenger Hunt is designed for 7th-12th graders as a 3-day event at the end of a school year. Generally held the last few days of May or beginning of June, this event is "In Search of . . ." something new each year.
East Central and Northeast BOCES combine to plan and host this event in a different location each year. Students participate in activities and classes that went around the theme "In Search of _________." Themes have included Excellence, Balance, the Future, and Direction.
Check out our Ultimate Scavenger Hunt page for pictures from past events.
This event for 7th-12th graders is offered twice per year. Summit is designed to inspire new thinking, ask the big questions, and encourage interactions between our gifted and talented students.
Summit is offered once per year in the fall (November) and focuses on a career opportunity. This fall, students will be learning about careers in Communication through rotating workshops and hands-on sessions with a professional author, an illustrator, sports broadcaster, local weather forecaster and a small town newspaper reporter.
Summit is held in both East Central BOCES and Northeast BOCES locations each time, allowing for smaller sizes and more focused conversation.
