Ultimate Summit is designed for secondary students as one-day events. Topics often parallel the Scavenger Hunt theme for the year, but the focus allows for a seminar-style presentation and deeper, focused thinking on the part of the students. Locations vary, but each Summit has been offered at least twice in two separate locations to accommodate students in both Northeast BOCES and East Central BOCES schools.
Fall 2023: Agriculture and Technology
The intersection of Agriculture and Technology is a booming career field and one that students have multiple opportunities in for their future. In the Fall of 2023, students toured three different sites: CHS grain operations, Agri-Inject (known worldwide), and CHS Drones Division. They engaged with business owners, technology operators, and gained insight into agriculture in our future.
Fall 2022: IN SEARCH OF THE FUTURE: HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS & CAREERS
In the fall of 2022, students in grades 7 to 12 were able to learn more about careers in the healthcare and medical systems. In the northeast region, they were able to visit Wray Hospital, Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke, or Sterling Regional MedCenter. They were able to go on rounds, see the laboratories, and have lunch with different professionals in the healthcare and medical fields and ask questions.

Students got to "gown up" and see the OR in Holyoke.
This event allowed students an inside look at the justice system and the many careers involved within. Students did some advance work by reading about at least two different careers that are present on a normal court docket. Then, after tours of the courthouse, students observed court in action. Lunch followed with several professionals from attorneys and court reporters to judges and social workers joining students. Professionals shared their educational journey, why they chose this career path, and how they ended up where they are today. Students ended the day with a demonstration and debrief of what a true system of balance may look like.
Day 2 International founder and owner, Victoria Jeffs, presented to our students on Emotional Intelligence and Personality Development. Students took self assessments on their EQ, dove into personality traits and development, and walked away with a better sense of the malleability of human potential.
Gifted Guru, Lisa Van Gemert joined us for this special event with our gifted secondary students! Students had an opportunity to learn how to learn, understand the development of their brain, and participate in a variety of hands-on activities.
In partnership with Think360 Arts and Downtown Aurora Visual Arts (DAVA), this year's Summit explored the concept of Creativity and how it's defined. Students had an opportunity to explore the work and art of Vance Kirkland (Denver artist), make their own oil/paint prints, and then try their hand at designing windmills from recycled materials.
In Spring 2017, Summit paralleled the "Direction" theme of Scavenger Hunt, and students were asked "Is hands-on education or virtual reality education better?" After working with a giant map from National Geographic, experiencing virtual reality through immersive headsets and augmented reality glasses, and engaging in a spirited discussion, the answer was still a split decision!

Virtual Reality anyone?
