Programs Developed or In Development

The programs listed below are comprehensive instructional programs designed to support students’ learning of foundational skills in reading, math, and writing. After we find evidence of a program being effective, the implementation and training materials are provided to all educators for free.

Accelerating Mathematics Performance through Practice Strategies (AMPPS)

  • A small-group instructional program designed to improve students’ math fluency and conceptual understanding.


Helping Early Literacy with Practice Strategies (HELPS)

  • A one-on-one instructional program designed to improve students’ reading fluency.


Helping Early Literacy with Practice Strategies in Brazilian Portuguese (HELPS-PB)

  • An adapted and translated version of HELPS that is written in Brazilian Portuguese.


Helping Early Literacy with Practice Strategies for Small Groups (HELPS-SG)

  • A different but complementary version of the HELPS program, which can be used with small instructional groups instead of with one student at a time.


HELPS Reading Curricula

  • Systematically developed and sequenced reading passages that can be used with the HELPS Programs or with instructional activities unrelated to HELPS (passages are currently available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, with more languages forthcoming).


Leamos para Avanzar

  • An adapted and translated version of HELPS that is written in Spanish.


Metropolitan Organization of Volunteers for Empowering Students (MOVES)

  • A service program that strengthens school-based capacity for academic intervention by training and organizing community volunteers to implement research-supported intervention programs with students who need (but are not receiving) such intervention.


Parents and Schools Together to Enhance Learning (PASTEL)

  • A program and guidebook that provides parents and caregivers with more than 60 fun and research-based literacy activities that can be used with children from birth to grade 6.


Plan It, Write It!

  • A structured, small-group writing intervention for elementary school students that can be implemented by teachers and paraprofessionals.


Systems-Oriented Plan for Academic Achievement (SOPAA)

  • A systems-level model of academic support intended to enhance nearly any school’s existing approach to assisting struggling learners in reading, math, and writing.
