Current and Ongoing Projects
A Few Current Research Projects:
As stated on the ERPAS homepage, the underlying purpose of all ERPAS projects is to enhance educational equity. This is certainly a broad goal, so each ERPAS project therefore has more specific goals and research questions. The following summarizes a few current projects that ERPAS team members are involved with.
In a large-scale effort to support thousands of struggling readers throughout Charlotte, NC, we are involved with a multi-year project that involves training teachers and community volunteers to implement the HELPS reading programs. This is a collaborative initiative with several community-based partners, including Read Charlotte, Helps Education Fund, Tutor Charlotte, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg public school system, and many others.
Similar to our work in Charlotte, we are working with several additional school districts and education-based nonprofit organizations to support students' learning. One example is with our coaching and support services for teachers who are implementing HELPS-SG throughout dozens of after-school programs located within the Research Triangle of North Carolina. Through this work, we also get NCSU graduate and undergraduate students structured training and applied work with community engaged scholarship. To further analyze and enhance our PASTEL reading program, we are evaluating the relative value of our instructional materials (e.g., brief videos and written instructions) that help parents and caregivers to use evidence-based literacy activities in the home.
Through our continued work in the area of internationalization within school and educational psychology, we are currently collecting relevant data, examining the topic through critical frameworks, and writing both empirical and conceptual papers. For even more information about internationalization, including its relevance to social justice and educational equity, please check out some of our recent publications on this topic.
Ongoing Work:
We continue to engage in projects designed to evaluate and/or enhance the educational programs we have developed. In most years, we have projects focusing on several of these programs.
We have an active team with many projects that take place each year. One ongoing activity related to our work is writing and publishing scholarly articles that document our projects, as well as presenting results of our work to a range of different audiences.
