Brief Overview of Internationalization:
Begeny (2018b) offered the following working definition and description of internationalization for school and educational psychology.
Internationalization within school and educational psychology [is] an intentional, intercultural, collaborative, and ongoing process involving transparent communication, representative stakeholders, a commitment to social justice, and various forms of data to inform decisions and strategic actions aimed at achieving context-relevant, equitable support and opportunities for professionals in the discipline. As an essential part of this definition and collaborative process, practices should also reflect cultural respect, reciprocity, inclusivity, value for all contributions, and co-creation of knowledge. In addition, the ongoing process should, at minimum, involve the following: (1) periodically identifying strengths and needs (e.g., by completing needs assessments) that are culturally relevant and relate directly to determining or achieving specified goals; (2) identifying representative stakeholders that align with the assessments and/or goals; and (3) articulating clear and stated benefits for stakeholders, including but not limited to school and educational psychology professionals (p. 927).
