Math is one of the 4 big subjects here at G&T 2017. We have already learned MANY different lessons in math. If you have been wondering what your child has been learning in math, then wonder no more, for we will tell you what we have been lessons for the last 3 months.

Powers of Ten

We have been learning about the Powers Of ten. Powers of ten are multiples of 10, but only with numbers like 10, 100, 1,000, 10,000, etc. We have made many charts to show what we have learned about the Powers of Ten.

10 Times As Much

What your child has done while learning 10 times as much was insure that she or he was comfortable with how we were learning during this unit in math. We did multiple activities providing your child to use tools such as the basic ten block. Using the basic ten blocks that are actually really helpful for your child if they’re stuck with what number is. While we did this we found out how much more times the value of a number is from another.

Multiplication

In multiplication we did lots of things like made our own equation in multiplication. We did a problem named Mike The Salesman, also we lots of posters. We also incorporated different ways to multiply like Area models and Standard algorithm. We use the ways that make us feel more comfortable.

Division

There are many strategies to divide. Division is one of the main subjects in math. We have done many different kinds of projects in division. For example, we found different ways to find a division area model and we worked in group depending on which area model we were more comfortable with, and presented it to the class we explain how it relates to division partial quotients and used multiplication to check our problem. At the end we found out what area model we were more comfortable with. Estimating Quotients is another division method we used, but it was to estimate.

Volume

During this year we also have been learning about Volume. We were taught what makes up volume and we learned how much volume there is in a 3D shape. There are many types of 3D shapes but we mainly stayed with cubes and rectangular prisms. In volume we multiply length, width, and height.
