Our program prepares students for three distinct credentials: New York State Professional License, American Speech-Language and Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP), and the Teacher of Students with Speech-Language Disabilities (TSSLD).
Please note:
If you are planning to work out of state immediately after graduation, you are responsible for determining the academic and clinical requirements of that state. The Graduate Program Director should be consulted as soon as possible for guidance and to determine if additional requirements must be met for an out of state license.
Students are strongly encouraged to also obtain the Teachers of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) credential, which may result in additional coursework and clinical requirements beyond the degree requirements.
Credential information is provided to students in the following ways:
An overview is provided at the orientation session.
A review is provided at the mandatory meeting held each January.
A review is provided during the CSD 571 Professional Issues Workshop (taken in the first summer).
TSSLD information is shared in the CSD 568 Speech-Language Services in the Schools class.
Individual questions are answered anytime by email, face-to-face meetings, or individual advisement sessions.
A mandatory final group advisement session is held in the final semester to review credential processes and documentation, and to provide guidance regarding the clinical fellowship experience.
Students can review this tutorial at any time.
Ultimately the student is responsible for understanding the credentials required for practice, ensuring they have met all the requirements, and completing all necessary paperwork.
