In New York State, the TSSLD credential is required to provide services to preschool age up through individuals who are 21 and still receiving school-based services.
It is strongly recommended that you complete the TSSLD coursework. If you choose not to pursue the TSSLD, you may limit your options for finding employment in New York State. Other states may also want you to have the TSSLD requirements complete to receive educational certification.
All students are required to complete the TSSLD checklist by the end of their first semester of study.
During advisement sessions, the requirements on the TSSLD checklist will be reviewed.
In the final semester of study, a final TSSLD checklist will be reviewed to prepare for graduation.
Individual questions should be addressed to the Graduate Program Director. The Nazareth College School of Education has many useful resources regarding the process for meeting the requirements for the TSSLD credential.
