The goal of advisement is to discuss the student's academic, clinical, and career goals on a regular basis and to plan their program accordingly.
All graduate students are required to meet with the Graduate Program Director and/or Graduate Program Director at least once during the fall and spring semesters for advisement. It is expected that students come to each advisement session prepared with an understanding of the program expectations and any questions they would like addressed.
During the advisement session:
The ASHA certification requirements are used to guide the discussion of the student’s Program Plan and course selection. This Graduate Advisement Planner may be a helpful document.
Portfolio progress is discussed
Practicum placements are reviewed and discussed
Student questions are answered.
Bring to your Advisement session each semester:
The Graduate Handbook
All relevant paperwork, including the previously developed Program Plan
Any questions or concerns
Students must meet with the Graduate Program Director prior to registering for courses.
If there is a semester during which a student falls below 6 credits (usually in the final semester), they may complete the Full Time Status Form (linked below) to remain a full time student for financial aid and loan purposes.
