This examples of an instructional design for an online community of practice incorporates Harasim's indicators to help leverage the community's interactive and academic discourse in reaching desirable learning objectives and outcomes. I first began with describing the contextual indicators, where quantitative means of measurement can be reinforced to determine if the overall effectiveness of the design would be alive and well. These features would then would help my design by incorporating constructivist strategies and leveraging social indication to enhance the community's network and development. Through the social indicators embedded in the design plan, I would be fostering the social engagement of the community and guiding the participants of the learning experiences to facilitate in discourse of idea generation, organization and convergence of ideas. Facilitating and monitoring the discourse of the community of practice would enable opportunities for ideas to be negotiated and acknowledged. Then I proceeded to include digital technology tools and created a digital learning environment where emphasis on technology would integrate practices of designing learning activities that support technology indicators such as: ease of use, availability of features, and technical assistance.
In creating this Canvas Course, optimized best practice to participate in collaborative learning played in pivotal in the design and execution of producing this online community of practice to become a polished artifact. This design focused on enhancing competencies related to global digital citizenship , where stakeholders would be introduced to ideas related to digital equity; safe, healthy, legal and ethical practices; and promoting diversity, cultural understanding, and global awareness. These individual topics were all assigned individual models where each one reflect opportunities for learners to engage in different learning modalities and collaborative academic discourse to nurture the knowledge building process of the community. Actively participating in this collaborative project assisted in my individual convergence of ideas where I now can align future instructional design endeavors that reflect these essential digital citizenship components.
This learning activity allowed me to analyze and evaluate different examples of LMS tools, and the knowledge built from this process will enable my capabilities to implement LMS in future PD course plans. I was able to look at my instructional design practices from a deeper context, and was able to develop a conceptual understanding of the knowledge and best-practices needed to increase UX and UI design. Not only did I evaluate the systems, but I also reflected on all of the attributes that are available within them. This assignment allowed me the compare different styles and features that can be used to leverage future designed course and support the alignment of theories, collaboration, learner interactions, and instructional design I wish to consider.
