Senior High Band

This course offers students the opportunity to further enhance their musical abilities and knowledge. Members of the band become acquainted with and learn to appreciate and play various musical forms ranging from classical to popular music. Students enrolled in band must develop an understanding for the need and importance of individual lessons and band rehearsals and the individual practice they must do to be successful. Course units include scales with arpeggios, embouchure, holding instrument and posture, rhythmical and beat analysis, breathing, phrasing and articulation, tone development, musical development, and solo performance. Independent Band will be offered for students with extenuating circumstances in their schedule who would not be able to get Band otherwise. Students in Independent Band will receive .50 credits and will fully participate in lessons and concerts. Students may NOT take Independent Band if they can fit regular Band into their schedule. This course may be taken more than once for credit. Students do not have to be in Band to participate in the extracurricular activity of Marching Band or Steel Pan Band but must be enrolled to participate in Jazz Band.
Senior High Chorus

Senior Chorus allows students who are interested in singing the chance to improve their abilities in singing, music reading, knowledge of musical terms and symbols, and
understanding of various styles of choral music. Students who develop their talents sufficiently will be able to audition for the area All-State Chorus, in addition to performing for Naples audiences. Attendance at all
rehearsals and performances is required to gain credit for this course. Course units include the voice, including
preparation and proper technique, music reading, musical experiences, and musical repertoire development. Independent Chorus will be offered for students with extenuating circumstances in their schedule who would not be able to get Chorus otherwise. Students in Independent Chorus will receive .50 credits and will participate in lessons and concerts. Students may NOT take independent Chorus if they can fit regular Chorus into their schedule. Music Theory Guitar

This course offers students the opportunity to learn the guitar and learn to read and understand music and chords. Students will also be taught plucking and finger picking. Music Theory Guitar is open to all students, regardless of experience in music or guitar, although those with the most limited exposure will benefit most.
Bella Voce

Prerequisite: 1 full year of regular choral ensemble
Bella Voce is a year-long, honors ensemble for female vocalists who have demonstrated an advanced level of vocal ability and musicianship. Students must have completed at least one year of chorus and must also be active members of the regular Senior High Chorus to be considered. Women in this ensemble will continue to develop critical thinking skills through the analysis of musical elements, including form and text. Musical selections will be performed in show choir or an acapella format. An audition, consisting of singing and sight singing is required and will be held in the Spring of the previous school year (.25 credit)
The Harmonators

Music Theory Piano is open to all students, regardless of experience in music or piano, although those with the most limited exposure will benefit most.
Gemini Basic Musicianship (FLCC: MUS 105)

Prerequisite: prefer current enrollment in Senior High Band and/or Senior High Chorus

This class is a study of scales, intervals, key signatures, meters, rhythmic reading, and chords. This course is for students with little or no background in music performance or theory. This course will allow the student to attain 3 college credit hours in visual and performing arts, as well as high school course credit towards graduation.
