Summer Driver and Traffic Safety Education

This course has as its major goal the development of safe and knowledgeable drivers. Students enrolling in this course must meet the following requirements: 1.) have a learner’s permit or a valid license from the Department of Motor Vehicles; 2.) be 16 years of age on or before July 1st for Summer Driver Education; and 3.) have permission from their parents. Students will be selected for this course based upon their grade level, date of birth, and maturity level. Class will be equally divided between classroom and on-the-road instruction. Students must meet attendance requirements or they will be dropped from the course. Upon completion of this course, parents of the students will receive a MV285 (blue card) and a letter for insurance purposes. Course units include: the driver and driving fitness, controls and the driver, the law, operation of the vehicle in various situations, the road and traffic, and the car; a) theory and maintenance; b) insurance; and c) driving techniques in various modes of transportation.
