Each year, more than 60,600 students in sixth through eighth grades enter the VFW’s Patriot’s Pen® annual youth essay contest for a chance to win their share of nearly $1 million in state and national awards. Each first place state winner receives a minimum of $500 at the national level, and the national first place winner wins $5,000!
The essay contest encourages young minds to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300- to 400-word essay, expressing their views based on a patriotic theme chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief. Students interested in participating must submit their essay prepared on this year's theme, with a completed 2025-2026 entry form, to their local participating VFW Post. Find your sponsoring local VFW Post as applications must be turned in by midnight, Oct. 31.
Established in 1947, our Voice of Democracy® audio-essay program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay. Each year, more than 26,400 ninth through 12th grade students from across the country enter to win their share of more than $1.4 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the program.
The national first place winner receives a $35,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college or vocational/technical school. A complete list of other national scholarships range from $1,000-$21,000, and the first place winner from each VFW Department (state) wins at least a scholarship of $1,000. Students interested in participating must submit their audio essay prepared on this year's theme, with a completed 2025-2026 entry form, to their local participating VFW Post. Find your sponsoring local VFW Post as essays must be turned in by midnight, Oct. 31.
Monroe Chapter of NYS Society of Professional Engineers
The Monroe Professional Engineers Society provides scholar awards to high school seniors from high schools within the counties that comprise the Chapter’s region. Students must plan to attend college to pursue a degree in an ABET accredited engineering program. The Scholar Award is based on academic achievement, participation in scholastic and out of school activities, work experience, and volunteer/community service activities. Scholar awards are sponsored by local companies and organizations. The following is a list of recent awards, their amounts, and sponsor preferences:

The scholar award program also provides copies of applications to the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) where the applicants indicate interest in attending RIT to study electrical or computer engineering. RIT reviews the applications and directly awards the Edward J. Ries Memorial Scholarship.
We encourage all seniors who are interested in engineering to review the scholar award application and apply if they meet the minimum requirements of 600/500 Math/Critical Reading SAT’s, 29/25 Math/English ACT’s, and 85 or 3.0 GPA. Applications are available starting October of each year and are due in December. Please see the application for the specific due date.

POLISH HERITAGE SOCIETY OF ROCHESTER
YEAR 2026 - SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
We are very pleased to announce that our $4,000 scholarship will be available for up to ten
qualifying high school students for the year 2026.
To be eligible for our scholarship a student must be a senior who is of Polish descent (at least
one parent) and lives in Monroe County or one of the surrounding six counties. Your complete
(including an official high school transcript) application must reach us by February 1, 2026.
You are required to have an official copy of your academic transcript emailed to us by your
high school. We have no restrictions on your area of major study in college, that is, you might
be majoring in the fine arts, computer science, premed, languages or still undecided.

The James H. Rice Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship offers financial assistance and recognition to high school seniors in the counties of Ontario, Seneca, and Yates. The scholarships are designed to assist graduating seniors in pursuing a post-secondary education in any state at an accredited institution which provides a two or four year college program. The scholarship may be used for any bona fide school related expense such as tuition, fees, books, and room and board.
This scholarship requires the student to be a 2026 graduate from any one of the fifteen public high schools in the counties of Ontario, Seneca, or Yates, possess a minimum of an 87 GPA during their high school career, complete an application, and provide two letters of reference.
There will be a minimum of two scholarships awarded in the amount of $1,000 each.
Applicants need not have a Masonic connection, nor does race, creed, religion, color, sex or national origin have any bearing in the selecion process. Recipients are selected after completing the comprehensive written application.

Thompson Health Guild Scholarship
The Thompson Health Guild is pleased to announce the availability of up to six (6) scholarships, each valued at $2,000, for eligible high school seniors. To qualify, students must be enrolled for their entire senior year in a high school located in the Thompson Health System service area. Eligible school districts in the Thompson Health System are: Bloomfield, Canandaigua, Geneva, Honeoye, Honeoye Falls-Lima, Livonia, Marcus Whitman, Midlakes, Mynderse, Naples, Newark, Palmyra-Macedon, Penn Yan, Red Jacket, Victor, and Waterloo.
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit to graduating seniors who plan to enroll in any accredited university, college, or proprietary school offering post-secondary education in a healthcare-related field. Award recipients are not restricted to New York State institutions. A list of eligible healthcare areas of study is included below for your reference.
Scholarship funds will be distributed in January 2027 following the recipient’s successful completion of their first semester of college and confirmation of intent to continue studies in a health-related field. Prior to payment, recipients must submit documentation verifying fall semester grades and registration and payment for the second semester. Scholarship payments will be made directly to the student.

Noyes Health Auxiliary, offers up to $5000 in college scholarships to reward hard-working students entering the medical field.
Fighting COVID-19 has shown the world how important essential health care professionals are to our existence. Presently, our
world is in need of very caring medical professionals in all areas of medicine and its research.
Scholarships will be granted to qualified students matriculating in an associate or
bachelor’s degree program at an accredited college or university in medicine,
nursing, or in another health-related field, including dentistry, ophthalmology, and
pharmacy. We are inviting you to encourage appropriate students to apply for these
scholarships. We are glad we are able to offer this opportunity to help students in
the Noyes Health service area defray the high expenses incurred by today’s college
students.
