The general goals of the program are to provide the skill development needed for basic entry-level jobs, as well as to provide a meaningful high school experience for those students who may prefer or need a work-oriented environment. It is emphasized that the program is part of the home school and not a separate vocational school. The classes only serve to make the home school offerings more comprehensive. The general rule for all classes is direct student involvement in some of the skills of the trade, with students individually practicing the skills specific to the class. Entrance into any of these vocational courses is based upon student interest, an intention to pursue that occupation after graduation, and class space. Please note that students can not be allowed to attend or be removed from these programs for inappropriate behavior, poor attendance, or budgetary issues. Students enrolled will spend one-half of their school day taking the required academics necessary for high school graduation. The remaining half-day is spent at the vocational school, with seniors attending in the morning and juniors attending in the afternoon. There is an opportunity in some programs for students to take pull-out or integrated coursework, in addition to their regular program, instead of taking these courses at their local high school. There is also the opportunity for students to excel to earn transferable college credit and/or certifications necessary for employment in some fields.
