Reflecting on the learning experience:
As stated above it is a performance standard based on the student's values, skills, and professional components. The nature of social work profession which is explained by Boehm (1958). Social work seeks to enhance the social functioning of individuals/ the client who would in the student's case be John. Social work seeks to enhance the social functioning of an individual and the student’s interaction between man and the environment (Boehm 1958). The student as an individual should bond and build a relationship with other human beings as a primary unit of attention. Social functioning consists of interaction between the student and the client. The need for enhancement of social functioning should be perceived either by the individual or the client (Bartlett 1970). To help the client enhance and effectively utilise their own problem-solving and coping capacities, establishing links between the student and the client (Pincus & Minahan, 1973). They are also concerned about the interaction between people and their social environment which affects their ability of people to accomplish their life tasks and values. The social worker focuses on helping to improve the individuals to solve their needs, to work with them on conscious levels. The student had to find out how he/ she best faces their problems and what goals they have for themselves. The student also had to gain the clients trust by making them feel welcomed, to show interest and not judge him/ her, continue to show the necessary support they need and help him/ her to their fullest potential. It is based on planning, social change, use of resources to maintain and enhance the individuals functioning in various social roles along with counselling and therapy. The student had to help develop the person and the students of the kind of desire and social structure for them to achieve their goals (Mondal, P, 2021). The student had to conduct a three series simulated interview based on the social work helping process. The helping process is helping other people in need to improve and grow towards their personal goals which would build them on their abilities for managing their life. (Bartleby & Amy Croff, 2013). The student must demonstrate the three distinct and interviewed phases of the helping process namely, assessment, intervention, and termination. The student should engage with the next one in their supervision group and conduct an interview.
