SELF REFLECTIVE JOURNAL
Throughout my experience in micro practice, I have gained a deeper understanding of the importance of individual interactions and the impact they have on clients' lives. Micro work focused on direct practice with individuals. I learned that incorporating social work conduct when engaging with clients is crucial as it is a way to set boundaries between the client and the SSW and also people might experience similar issues but that does not mean the root causes are the same, thus it is essential to understand the underlying issues to use a holistic approach during the helping process. I recognized that I could have approached some client interactions with greater cultural sensitivity. Initially, I may have overlooked the influence of cultural backgrounds on clients' perspectives and needs. If I had taken more time to research and understand clients' backgrounds before sessions, I believe it would have enriched our conversation and strengthened the therapeutic relationship.
Macro interventions have significantly assisted me in understanding my role as a social worker. By engaging with direct clients, I learned how to tailor my approach based on unique circumstances. For instance, during a counseling session with a client struggling with self-doubt, I use an empathetic attitude validation to create a safe space for the client to express her feelings without fear and judgment, encouraging openness and feeling of acceptance to build her self-esteem. I believe I did well, in establishing rapport with my client. My ability to create an open and nonjudgmental environment encouraged them to share their thoughts freely. Moving forward, I recognises the need to develop further in creating an accurate and clear action plan that is directed to the client's current issues and establish clear goals.Â
