Sub-standard 9.3 Awareness of the targeted audience of any communication; the central messages to be communicated and how these are to be communicated, reports
This standard focuses on the ability to use effective communication with a particular population that is appropriate for the project as social workers work with different people in society According to the NASW (2015) communication skills are vital because social workers facilitate effective intervention in gathering information in the community. Hepworth et al (2013) argued that good oral communication skills enable social work students to build rapport in the community during community engagement. The student engaged with a multi-racial group of learners, teachers, and stakeholders using English as it is an official language that everyone in the school understands. During the engagement, the student asked open-ended questions allowing the learners, teachers, and other stakeholders in the school environment to interact while listening and carefully taking questions as well. This assisted the interactions to be smooth and respectful to all. In addition, when the student was sharing awareness with school children, the student used simple words that both girls and boys understand to convey an effective awareness that equip them with menstrual health.
The student is competent in that she achieved this standard in the macro intervention as she was able to communicate effectively with stakeholders and the target audience. The student rates herself 4\5.drive.google.com/file/d/1IOKKzPDZhGBapgV2feM42N5GPcB7BOuY/view?usp=drive_linkÂ
