The Game
What was Charged Up?
Charged Up was the 2023 FRC game with a focus on energy management and sustainability. In the game, two alliances of three teams each competed to score points by manipulating "game pieces" shaped like cones and cubes. These pieces represented energy that the teams had to manage and deliver to grid zones on the field.
Scoring Game Pieces: Teams placed cones and cubes onto the grid for points. Specific zones, such as the hybrid and node zones, awarded varying point values based on the difficulty of placement.
Charging Stations: During the endgame phase, teams aimed to balance their robots on "charging stations" to generate additional points. The charging station was a tilting platform, and balancing multiple robots on it earned more points for the alliance.
Cooperation Bonus: Teams could earn ranking points by collaborating with the opposing alliance to complete a shared task during the match.
The game drew attention to the importance of energy balance, aligning with real-world concepts of power grids and sustainability.
Our Robot
Mark l posing before 1st District Tournament
Mark ll locked and prepped for State Championship
"Ghost" at first (Mark l) had a tall and wide arm length to perform it's ability to grab cubes and cones when grab by a pair of Plexiglas carved claw when closed together by a motor controlled by one driver. It performed in this state of a combination of amazing offense and defense at our first district tournament. However, when we arrived at our second tournament with only half of the body of the robot cut off with a complete arm, "Ghost" would be operated in a new operation with now 2 drivers this tournament. At this tournament, before a match started we discovered that the motor to the arm was now stripped and broken. This led to us tying the arm up to a vertical position and us playing defense with a occasionally opportunity of scoring cubes with the push of our bumper. This problem was soon solved when we took off the arm and only had a trapezoid shaped based robot (Mark ll) to do straight up defense and "Bumper Cube Offense" when going to State Championship. "Ghost" eventually had a much better reputation in defense and offense in which led to a perfect ranking and making it to finals. Our robot's name and design was inspired by the strategy of pure aggressive defense and sneaky offense which led to the victory of our alliance in which was the traits of a ghost, but not any ghost, but a wraith.

"It was a very fun season. The game was super interesting because there were so many ways that it could be won. There were so many variations because you had the link ups, you had to stack everything all together, and you made connections and all that. Also, the climb and movement part of it at the end of the game, where you have to balance on the charge station and you have to coordinate with your team was just the best."
"This being my first year changed my life forever. I do over 10 different extra curricular activities every year and this will always be my favorite. I love to build, design, and fix the robot. Always being on drive team and going to State was the best part."
"The charging stations were cool and we had a cool robot and it was a great year."
"I did do a lot, yes, I worked on some parts on the robot. Going to state was fun, and Channelview was too."
"Scouting was just the best part of the entire season. Crescendo was one of my favorite games in general."
"I was always in the pit and always technician. I always loved to work. I had a good time, I collected a bunch of pins."
