Yoga Teacher, Jewelry Maker and affectionate cat owner. My goal is to transform yoga newbies into full-fledged yogis that find healing through awareness, kindness, and mindful movement. The only thing I love more than a kitty purr is helping people like you feel better in their bodies!
As a kid I had a lot of energy that my parents easily funneled into numerous activities. I danced, played t-ball and soccer, and eventually fell in love with gymnastics. I practiced almost daily and competed on weekends throughout my grade school years. I was lucky to never have a major injury until junior year of high school, when I injured my back. Using my ego driven yet still developing brain, I pushed through the pain and continued doing the things that I loved, which only made matters worse. I didn’t allow myself to feel the pain or listen to my body and take it easy. I see this everyday; we don’t listen to our bodies and give them what they need to heal (I’m looking at you there on the other side of the screen).
I also see many of us taking care of those around us, sharing our loving kindness with them, but not always caring for ourselves. I want to help you get out of that cycle and begin to share that kindness you show to others with yourself. To help you bring awareness to how you are feeling and offer yourself the kindness it needs to heal and move forward.
I found yoga in grad school when a good friend dragged me to the new yoga studio in town. Before that I had only done a few yoga videos that I had on DVD as a quick workout. I was honestly afraid to go with her to the class but left signing up for a monthly unlimited package and continuing to go to the studio 6 days a week for the next 4 years! I fell in love and knew this was the path I needed to take to feel whole. Yoga was the tool I used to find the kindness I needed to support my back and body’s needs, my emotional state, and grow into someone who cares about myself. It taught me it was perfectly okay to slow down, listen to what my body needed and DO IT!

Hey Get Bent community!I’m Emily Vanstaen and I’d love to tell you a little bit about me… I am lucky to have lived the life of a traveler. I grew up in Bangkok, Thailand before moving to the wide open beaches of Western Australia, where I fell in love with surfing, always finding joy in fluidity and movement. After relocating to the US as a teen, I struggled to find my happy place, believing the Connecticut winters were to blame, I chased the endless summers on the California coast. Feeling lost and searching for some stability, I sought a spark and purpose in life. My search led me to yoga which always left me feeling grounded and full of fire.. and voila! My yoga journey began! This spark helped me work through personal challenges and fully embrace and commit to my practice. Always the traveler, I completed my 200 hour YTT & intro to Thai Massage certification in Cusco, Peru in February 2017. The course solidified the knowledge I have gained throughout the years and has given me the confidence and understanding to pass on these great tools of mindful movement to be of benefit to others. Now settled in Lisbon, CT, I’ve learned your happy place isn’t controlled by the weather or location, but by your mindset. Finding joy and igniting my fire with movement throughout the seasons! Including chasing the surf and snow in the New England winter…. paired nicely with a side of hot yoga!
In my class you will learn to link breath to movement and challenge yourself to push the boundaries of what you think you’re capable of. While helping you stay in the present moment by holding composure through flow and resistance, we’ll find the yin/yang balance amongst the chaos of life with a calm collected breath. Open to all body types and skill levels, I can’t wait to practice with you! Come see what you’re made of!
P.s It’s Stardust 😉

Breath Work for Adults
Johnny began his yoga journey in 2010 when he was searching for something to compliment his martial arts discipline. Having practiced and competed in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for 6 years, his body was beginning to fall apart. Years of sports, reckless behavior and burning the candle at both ends were beginning to mount up physically and mentally. What he discovered in his yoga practice exceeded his expectations. He entered with the hopes of gaining physical openings and flexibility. Not long after beginning, he noticed major improvements not only in flexibility and strength but focus, breathing, and the ability to become comfortable in uncomfortable situations. He was hooked. He knew this practice had so much more to offer than just the physical benefits.
Johnny now runs a personal development coaching practice along with teaching Breathwork around the globe. His mission is to raise the level of consciousness and release old traumas with all high level performers, coaches, athletes, entrepreneurs, youths across the globe.

8:25 PM SOUND BATH PRESENTED BY MARLISA McLAUGHLIN
Marlisa considers her ability to help others help themselves the most valuable asset of her healing career. She has served as an integrative health professional for over thirty years. Her healing work began as a Kripalu certified yoga instructor and Cranio Sacral therapist on the northern coast of Iceland.
A naturalized citizen, she opened the first yoga studio and healing center. A decade later she returned to New England to integrate and develop her practice into what she calls, Energy Alignment. In order to help her clients more fully embrace their own dynamic power, she introduced the element of sound. Her work as a certified Biofield Tuning practitioner led to her Sound Bath certification with Sara Auster, as well as studies and practice in Sound Therapy through the Institute of Sound Therapy and Shamanic Studies.
Delighted and grateful for the integration of deeper listening, she loves to offer the connective, collective experience of shared sound experience. Marlisa presently resides in Connecticut where she enjoys family, friends, fine food and the amazing coastal vibe.
