Mystic, CT (May 6, 2022) — Always Home’s HEART TO HEART gala is set for Friday, May 13, 2022 at the Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa. This heart-inspired evening begins at 6 pm and includes a cocktail hour with open bar, three-course gourmet dinner, auctions of unique items and experiences and dancing to DJ Doug Jastremski of Power Posse. This year’s gala honoree is David Cruthers, a long-time supporter of Always Home and resident of Groton Long Point.

The gala is the nonprofit agency’s primary fundraiser for the year and benefits Always Home’s mission, Preventing Family Homelessness. “Inflation is threatening low-income families’ housing stability,” said Always Home’s Executive Director, Tricia Cunningham. “If you’re not a family making the region’s household median income of over $75,000 annually, then you’re struggling to afford housing and other basic needs like food and gasoline.”

The Bill Memorial Library in the City of Groton invites families to join Miss Mary-Jane each week for Outdoor Spring Story Time under our shady trees. Our sessions will be Mondays at 10:00 a.m. beginning on April 11, with a rain date the following Wednesday. This story time is suited for ages birth to 5, but all ages are welcome. Local community members and businesses join together to celebrate 50 years of serving the community with a Kentucky Derby Gala on Saturday, May 7^th, 2022.

The 50^th Anniversary Celebration is being held at the Dragonfly Equestrian Center in Stonington, CT. Over 200 attendees from the surrounding region are expected to attend. The tickets range in price from $75 to $125.

Mystic Museum of Art (MMoA) is pleased to present Norman Rockwell’s Saturday Evening Post Covers: Tell Me a Story, organized by the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA. The exhibition will run from June 18 through September 18.

The exhibition will present all 323 of the legendary covers created for The Saturday Evening Post by the renowned American painter and illustrator, Norman Rockwell (1894-1978).

Josh Piver Memorial Fund: Josh Piver is a son of Stonington, a graduate of Stonington High, an honorable citizen of our country. Josh was a special friend to many, a gentle soul to all. He could be depended on to bring a smile to the darkest moments with his sharp wit and love of fun. He was a leader among his peers as well as a devoted son, a caring brother, a generous uncle and a model grandson.

Josh died in New York City on September 11, 2001. We continue to keep his memory alive by awarding a deserving Stonington High School student, each year, with a scholarship. The chosen recipient must best epitomize Josh’s same passion for life, desire for honest leadership, care for family and friends and vision for a good and responsible career. The scholarship is awarded to a senior at Stonington High School annually. Awards will be distributed directly to the recipient.

The Westerly Community Credit Union (WCCU) held its 2021 Annual Holiday Basketball Tournament which supports local athletes, sports programs, and schools. Since then, NL HarborCam has broadcast a livestream panorama of New London Harbor 24/7. In just 2 1/2 years over 2.7 million viewers have taken advantage of the view! Mystic Seaport Museum will present its 2022 America and the Sea Award to Captain William “Bill” Pinkney, former Mystic Seaport Museum trustee, U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman, sailor, educator, author, and adventurer. The prestigious award recognizes those individuals and organizations whose extraordinary achievements in the world of maritime exploration, competition, scholarship, and design best exemplify the American character. It’s seal pup season, and the Mystic Aquarium’s Animal Rescue Program has some tips for people who spot the animals along the shores of Connecticut and Rhode Island. Pups, after nursing for three to four weeks after birth, begin to learn how to survive on their own, a crucial period for their transition into adulthood, the aquarium said in a statement.

Mystic — A new coffee shop has opened at the Mystic Seaport Museum's north entrance in the Thompson Exhibition Building, the first in a series of changes coming from new food and beverage operator Lancer Hospitality.

Propeller Coffee Bar opened in mid-January, the same time Lancer took over as the museum's primary food and beverage operator.

Westerly Community Credit Union donated 50 Turkeys to the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center (PNC), for the seventh year in a row. The PNC used these turkeys, in addition to all other donations they received, to create and distribute Thanksgiving baskets.
