When you enroll in your course, you'll automatically get a College City Account. This account lets you log into the college computer systems, including the College Network, Citylife (our student intranet), and Canvas (our virtual learning environment).
Your IT account will be ready to use 24 hours after you enroll. You can find detailed instructions on the College website to help you access your student account. Just follow the steps, and you'll be all set!
Keeping Your Account Secure:
To keep your account safe, we use multi-factor authentication (MFA). You'll need to use the Microsoft Authenticator app, which you can download from the App Store or Google Play. If MFA doesn't work, our IT Helpdesk is here to help.
Canvas is our virtual learning environment where you'll participate in courses, access resources, and connect with teachers and classmates. Your Canvas account is personalized to your learning journey, making it easy to find your courses, assignments, materials, feedback, and grades.
Canvas can be accessed via CityLife, please note you will need to have your College account set up before you can access CityLife or Canvas.
As a student at City of Glasgow College, you get free access to Microsoft 365, which includes essential tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, and OneDrive. Learning to use these tools can boost your employability and set you up for a successful career.
You can access Microsoft 365 apps from the App Launcher in CityLife, through a web search, or by downloading the Microsoft 365 app on the App store or Google Play.
For more info on Microsoft 365 and other systems we use, check out the Student Digital Learning site.
Connecting your devices to the WIFI is super easy. We use eduroam, a secure WIFI network used by many universities and colleges across Scotland. You can connect to eduroam when you're on campus or staying in Student Accommodation.
Once you've set up your College IT Account, you'll be able to connect to eduroam on campus. Clear instructions are available on the College website.
CityLife is our student intranet, packed with useful information. Here's what you can do on CityLife:
Check your timetable.
View your grades.
See your college funding payments.
Update your contact details (address, email, phone, emergency contact, pronouns). If you're transitioning, you can update your name and gender here too.
Access your Student Induction information.
Book appointments with Student Advisors, Careers Advisors, and for Wellbeing Assessments.
Find information about support services.
Order a new student card.
Your lecturers will let you know if there are any specific IT requirements for your course. It's helpful to have your own laptop or tablet for online classes, meetings, or workshops, but it's not essential. The college has IT equipment you can use on campus outside of class time.
Classes, guidance, and support can be delivered via secure webinars, you can use filters or backgrounds during these sessions. There are guides for using Teams on the Student Digital Learning website. These are official College media and follow the normal College code of conduct.
If you don't have your own device, you can borrow a laptop from the College. This is available on either a day or two-day basis.
Two-Day Borrowing: In 2024, CitySA and Library Services launched a new laptop borrowing service on the 2nd floor of the Students' Association at City Campus. You can borrow a laptop from the self-service cabinets and take it home for up to 2 days during the academic year. Although the service is based at City campus it is open and available to students at both campuses.
Short-Loan Borrowing: This is a daily laptop loan service available at both campus libraries. You can borrow a laptop for use in the library during the day.
To use these services, you'll need your student card and no overdue resources with the Library.
