At City of Glasgow College, we’re committed to helping every student succeed in a supportive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
We want all students to feel safe, valued, and empowered. That means any behaviour that harms the dignity, safety, or comfort of others will be taken seriously. This Code of Conduct outlines what is expected from you as a student so we can all work and learn together positively.
These expectations apply to all students and applicants — on campus, online, and during any College-related activity. This list isn’t exhaustive, but it provides clear guidance. If these expectations aren’t met, disciplinary action may be taken. Full details of the policy can be found on our website.
We're proud to have smoke-free and vape-free campuses at City of Glasgow College. While we respect your choice to smoke or vape, we must protect everyone's right to a healthy environment by eliminating the risks of second-hand smoke and vapor.
Exposure to tobacco smoke and vapor, whether by smoking, vaping, or passive inhalation, is the largest single preventative cause of death and disease in the UK. That's why both our Riverside and City campuses are smoke-free and vape-free.
Our Smoke and Vape Free Policy, in line with the Smoking, Health and Social Care (Scotland) Act 2005, makes it a criminal offense to smoke or vape in no-smoking areas.
Q: What does this mean?
A: This means that smoking and vaping are not allowed anywhere on campus. This includes:
City and Riverside Campus buildings.
Student Accommodation.
At or near entrances and open windows.
Internal and external terraces.
Courtyards, gardens, etc.
College vehicles.
Q: Where can I go to smoke/vape?
A: Because we’re smoke free, we don’t have any spaces for students to smoke/vape. For those who move off campus to smoke, we ask you to be respectful of our neighbours and make use of bins provided by Glasgow City Council. Remember, you can be fined for littering.
Q: Why can’t I vape? It’s safe.
A: While vaping or using electronic cigarettes is potentially less harmful than smoking tobacco products it is not entirely risk free, some models can look like a real cigarette and can create the impression to others that it’s okay to smoke.
Q: What happens if I smoke on campus?
A: If you smoke within College buildings you can be fined under the law. If you choose to smoke on our grounds you will be asked to move off campus or you could face disciplinary action.
Q: I want to quit. Can you help?
A: We actively encourage healthy lifestyles at the College and work in partnership with NHS Scotland to support students to access smoking cessation services. The Students’ Association and Student Services run regular events for students to encourage smoking cessation.
